OMG IT'S BEEN A MONTH SINCE I UPDATED I'M SO SORRY I DIDN'T MEAN FOR THIS TO HAPPEN!!! I ask for you guyses (not a word, I know) forgiveness and I hope you aren't tempted to kill me... through the internet... even though I understand why you would want to murder me... WELL ANYWAYS, HERE'S CHAPTER 5:
Emerald’s POV~
I woke up reluctantly to the sound of loud barking. I realised Moon was right up against my ear. I shoved her off the bed and checked the time. I was much later than I usually am, but for some strange reason, I didn’t feel panicked at all. Why am I like this? I hated being late. I’m having a mini war with myself right now. My head is telling me to rush up and get to school but my body is saying the complete opposite. And right now, my body was winning. I still didn’t know why I felt like this. I was about to fall back asleep when Moon shoved me off the bed. I groaned but this was all the encouragement my mind needed to overpower my body and I got ready in record time and ran down to catch the bus, completely forgetting breakfast.
After the bus ride I got to my locker and shoved the needed books in my bag.
“Oh, look. The girl with anger issues is back!” I hear a voice that I have learnt to hate. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, this was why I don’t want to come to school. I decided to pretend I didn’t hear it. I didn’t want a fight first thing in the morning. I walked straight past Ian, the person who said it, and he grabbed my collar. Ow.
“Don’t you dare ignore me.” He hissed. I tried to talk but spluttered. Uhh, hello? Girl choking? Not getting oxygen? POSSIBLY DYING??!!
“Give her a break!”
My eyes widened in relief when I heard the mystery girl’s voice. Ian looked at her and dropped me like a ragdoll, so I drew in full breaths of sweet, sweet oxygen. I looked over to the two and saw they were having an argument. Ugh. I can’t go there now and say, ‘Hey, sorry to interrupt your argument but I just wanted to say thanks for helping me last time and if you wanted to hang out at lunch.’ I decided to go with the obvious route and left them. Part of me felt guilty that I left her to handle the boys again but last time she dealt with them without getting beat up so I felt that it was okay.
----
The first two classes were uneventful. It’s called a typical school day, ladies and gentlemen. I exchanged my books at my locker and Aiden came over.
“What’s up?” I said.
“Not much. I just wanted to stick around.” I smiled and locked my locker. We chatted about everything that came to mind and Aiden made a couple of dirty jokes. We were chatting like old friends but soon it seemed like he was forcing things out, the flow of phrases coming from his mouth turned into choppy, desperate words.
“Aiden, you don’t have to force yourself to talk to me.” I said, only half joking. He frowned but said nothing. “You don’t have to stick around me too. It’s not like I’m gonna jump out the window.” I laughed but I realised he remained silent and serious.
“Aiden?” I asked warily. A bunch of moving shadows round the corner caught my eye. It was the gang. I pretended I was talking to Aiden but I was looking at them. They were about to walk towards us when Quentin stopped them. He pointed to Aiden and then all agreed on something and left. I sighed in relief. Then something clicked. Aiden! They didn’t come because of Aiden! He had to stick around to protect me. I felt grateful and weak at the same time. I didn’t realise until now how vulnerable I was to them. URGH, I hate feeling vulnerable. Like a potato about to be eaten.
“Thanks.” I said to him. He knows that I figured out the purpose of his presence.
“Just call me if you need me. Don’t get hurt.” I smiled and we bid each other farewell as we parted ways. I got the bestest friend someone can ask for.
---
Period three was also pretty boring. I headed to lunch after dropping down my bag at my form room. I sat with Aiden and the guys as usual and kept a sharp eye for the girl. She didn’t come the whole time, well, if she did then I’m blind. Aiden tailed me after I left the table and I started to get annoyed but I kept him around, knowing I need his protection, even though my stubborn side told myself that I could handle 7 boys if I tried. Hey, I have nice comebacks!
---
Period four and five were absolute living hell! I had the gang in my class for both of them, giving them opportunities to mock and insult me in class and they tailed me in the interchange time, not breaking the flow or curses and rude names. I was thinking of turning around to insult them back but everytime I try there was a teacher and they just stopped and looked as if they were just going the same way as me.
When I got off the school bus, I fumbled with the keys to the door. “I’m home!” I yelled out of pure habit. There wasn’t even anyone home except for my dog, who jumped on me and gave me doggy kisses. I went up stairs and pulled my homework out, quickly finishing the simple task. Then I hopped onto YouTube and played my ‘Music’ playlist. Of course just listening to music is boring… so you need to play tetris as well!
After a few successful (and unsuccessful) games Moon captured my attention by leaping onto me. “Em! Your Mom needed you to get some groceries. She’s busy and your Father’s coming home late.”
I groaned then thanked her for telling me. It’s only been like thirty minutes of freedom and I’m ripped away from it. I groaned again and went downstairs. I grabbed the list, money, Moon’s collar and I started to walk to the closest supermarket with Moon trotting happily in front of me. When I walked out the supermarket I saw a bus, that strangely looks like my school bus, outside my house. Very few people were on it and they got out. I recognized our school uniform so I stopped to see who couldn’t take the bus that was thirty minutes earlier. I spotted my mysterious saviour come out of the bus and we locked eyes. I can finally say hi!
I jumped over to her, “Hi!” I exclaimed happily, Moon barked a ‘hello’ and wagged her tail. She blushed a bit and mumbled a small ‘hi’. She was being so awkward. She wasn’t like this when she helped me… twice.
“I just wanted to thank you for helping me get away from those boys.” I said. She looked up from the ground and smiled.
“I’ve been at this school for a while and they’ve been there the whole time. I hated them ever since they started to bully new kids. I just took it upon myself to help them.” She said with a little more confidence. “They’re scared of me in a degree. They just always seem to get caught when they do mean things to me. Well, I sort of lead them into getting into trouble.” She explained. So that’s why they held back on punching her last time.
“Well, I’m Emerald Hawkeswood. This is Moon, my dog.” I extended my hand for her to shake.
“Willow Harper.” She replied quietly, hesitating before taking my hand. She scratched Moon behind the ears. “I uh… I’ll see you at school then.” Willow then fast walked into her house, which was just next to mine. Why didn’t I notice that earlier? Oh yeah, because Willow takes the later school bus.
“So we’re neighbours.” I murmured to myself. I walked to the supermarket with a large grin plastered on my face. I’ve finally met her, and I’ve got two protective friends! Then my face lit up even brighter; time to make a plan titled ‘Getting my two new friends who probably don’t know each other to know each other!’
(sorry there was a whole load of time skipz, but you should want school to have time skips! Then you wouldn’t have a living nightmare 5 days a week!)
