~ starry night, a collage AU ~
The classroom is huge, like a colosseum — the ones where they fed people to lions. I'm not expecting anyone to die today, but it's pretty early in the semester, so anything is possible.
I set up my books and papers and pencils, a delicate ecosystem. Once the teacher starts talking, I'm 100% in it. There's an air of competence here that I never felt in high school. Most people want to be here. I do. I'm finally an adult, I do adult things, think adult thoughts.
The teacher stops talking mid-sentence, and then picks back up in a disparaging tone. I glance behind me — there's a guy running down the steps. He scoots into my row and shrugs off his backpack. He's kind of willowy, like a dancer. Full lips and almond-shaped eyes, black hair parted neatly in the middle, a wrinkly shirt that shows his collarbone. Now I'm a little bit jittery, because he's hot, and I've always been a turtle-bisexual when it comes to hot people. Right into my shell. I focus on the teacher.
"Did anyone notice I was late?"
The tardy guy steals my attention again. He's leaning over to talk to me, smirking with one half of his face.
"Yeah, it was embarrassing," I say.
He scrunches his nose and nods. "I knew it." But he's still smiling. I don't think he's taking it seriously. What that must be like.
"Minho," he says. His name — oh. "You?"
"Han," I say. "Han Jisung."
He smirks that smirk again. I hate it for being the epitome of what I like.
"Very cool," he says.
"Enough up there," the teacher calls. I turn to see who's in trouble, but then I realize it's me. And this guy — Minho. Time to disengage. Back into the shell, dumb little turtle.
"Sorry." Minho gives an apologetic wave to the class and sticks his nose into his backpack. Then he glances up at me and smiles. I probably shouldn't have been looking at him. Focus, focus, focus.
