Elegantly Trapped

Thirty-Two.

Scarlett, Jefferson, Susanna and Marie stand at the gates of the palace ready to send Thomas off.

"I have a flashback of me saying goodbye to you just like this when you left for Germany" Scarlett chuckles as she places her hands on his shoulders.

Thomas chuckles "be careful my boy, oui?" Scarlett says, Thomas nods quickly "and I demand you come back home as well, alive" Scarlett says placing a hand on Thomas' cheek.

"Yes your majesty" Thomas smiles softly. Scarlett smiles back and pull him into a hug. Susanna hugs Thomas tightly.

"You have everything?" Jefferson asks leaning on the closed gate.

"Yea I do"

"Stick to the plan and you'll all come back alive" Jefferson tells the male. Thomas nods.

"I got this" Thomas answers with a smug smile. Jefferson chuckles and squeezes his shoulder.

"I know you do, I wouldn't trust anyone else with this but you" Jefferson smiles.

"I am going to walk Thomas half way. I promise it will be half way" Marie announces. Scarlett nods and smiles.

"Come along Susanna" Scarlett beckons.

Marie and Thomas watch as the three head back into the palace before leaving the palace grounds.

Jefferson has told Thomas it would be best not to go in with a backpack so the only things he had on him was a map.

Marie was secured safely underneath's Thomas' arm. He kisses the top of her head as he stops them at the end of a street. Marie sighs as she straightens up.

"I'll be back" Thomas says slowly unwrapping his arms from the girl he loves the most.

Marie held back her tears "please be careful" She begs. Thomas cups her cheeks, wiping away the tears that have fallen.

"I promise you I will be" Thomas smiles. "Before I go I have something for you" He says as he drops his hands and begins to pull something out of his back pocket.

"You did not have too" Marie sniffles.

"Think of it as a contract gift"

"Contract gift?" Marie questions confused. Thomas brings his arm up to reveal his heirloom ring on a sliver chain. "Thomas" Marie stifles a laugh.

"I am not proposing again, I promise but" he says and steps closer, clasping the necklace around Marie's neck "I'm giving this to you because that means it'll never leave your neck and be put on your finger unless I come back alive" Thomas smiles. Marie smiles and closes the small distance between them. She reaches up and kisses him. He kisses back.

"I love you" Marie whispers once they had pulled away.

"I love you too princess" Thomas whispers back. "Now go back home, it is dark and the street lights will be turned off soon" Thomas tells the girl. Marie nods hesitantly. She reaches up and kisses his cheek.

Marie steps away from the boy and controls herself not to turn away as she makes her way up the hill.

Thomas watches her move up the hill before she rounds the corner. He wanted to make sure she was safe before he went back into hell.

As Marie slips into the palace grounds again her fingers wrapped around the ring.

It was the next morning when Scarlett moved to the side allowing the Prime Minister and his wife into the palace.

"Sounds quiet for a house that is always full of energy" Clarissa smiles softly at the Queen.

"Yes well William and Susanna has fallen ill over the last couple days so I had to move Marie in with Nicholas as he isn't the easiest sleeper" Scarlett chuckles as she guides them to the dinning hall.
