Soul Suckers
The girl was weeping silently, shoulders shaking incessantly. Whimpers and murmurs escaped her lips with every breath. Her face was wet with tears, her shirt stained red, her hands pressed tightly to her mid-section.
Jackson noticed her from across the street, her body illuminated by a flickering street light. She sparked his interest as would any other girl cowering on the sidewalk, on a dark Philadelphian night, seemingly in pain. He crossed the street with soft footsteps.
“Miss?” He crouched beside her and brushed a hand against her shoulder. “Are you alright?”
She whimpered again, “Are you going to hurt me?”
“No,” he whispered gently, “I would never.”
The girl stopped shaking, her hands dropped from her abdomen. “Do you swear?” Her voice turned harsh as her next words came out, “On your life?”
“I do.”
Her head whipped in the man’s direction, a sadistic smile on her face. “Then you are now mine.”
He didn’t have time to ponder her words. She grabbed his face with both of her hands and forced him to look into her eyes. She said, “Open your mouth.” Jackson’s jaw dropped open. Then the girl leaned forward and pressed her open mouth against his. She inhaled sharply and dug her fingers into the flesh on his jaw.
His eyes rolled back in his skull as she slammed her lips shut and hummed. Jackson slumped to the ground. She licked her lips and jumped up.
“Delicious,” she sang, skipping off into the dark.
