Alvea woke up to the sound of nothing. Her hair was silky smooth from untangling it the day before. It made her feel pretty. As though she would meet up with friends.
She didn't have many friends growing up. She had only one. The boy that used to live next door to her house, Jimmy. But no one liked it when they were playing together. Every time she would come by her neighbors house to ask if he wanted to play, his parents would tell her that he wasn't home. Even though she had seen him standing in the window. He would always open the window and talk to her. So did she. Apart from Timmy she didn't have any friends. She was invited to a party once. It was the party of a girl from her class. They were going tot he petting zoo. The invitation said to meet at the petting zoo, and that you had to wait in the pig house. Alvea had done as the invitation said, but little did she know that the girl from her class and all their classmates were waiting just outside. They had walked to the pig house. Alvea had waved to them, and they had pushed her in the mud. They took pictures and laughed at her. Alvea smiled with them, but she didn't think it was funny. It had hurt. And her favorite dress, which she could only wear for special occasions was covered in mud. Her father was not too happy about that dress being muddy. He had ordered Alvea to sleep outside that night. Because if she wanted to get her special clothes dirty than she can sleep outside and be dirty. That was the coldest night she had ever had to sleep in.
All of the sudden the room door opened. It wasn't eating time yet, and there were no men in white suits, and no doctor. It was a girl. A girl was standing in the door opening. She peeked around the door first and then walked in closing the door after her. The girl was outstandingly gorgeous. She had long dark red curls reaching her waist and light grey eyes. Her face was covered in freckles. She wore a long white dress with pink flowers on it. Her fairy like appearance had startled Alvea.
"Hi, I'm Dorea." The girl said. "I've come to live here. To keep you company."
Suspiciously Alvea looked at Dorea. Why, after ten years, would they give her a roommate. But she didn't doubt it long. She had been so lonely that having a friend would be nice. And Dorea seemed like a nice girl. Alvea hadn't talked for years, so as usual she just kept her mouth shut. That is what her father had taught her. Don't talk if you're not asked to talk. Or even better, just keep it shut. So she did. She listened to Doreas stories, and every once in a while, she would say 'yes' or 'no' or 'mmm'. But that was all. She noticed that the men in white suits that walked past the door were surprised she even said anything. She could see them looking at her and Dorea through the bars on the door. That night they only received one plate of food. Alvea shared her food and they split everything. When they went to bed, Dorea started whispering in Alveas ear.
"Don't you want to leave this place?" She asked. "Don't you want to run away? I can help you. We can run away together. If you want."
This gave Alvea an idea. She would run away. She knew she was being held against her will. She break from the claws of the doctor and the men in white suits. She would leave. Her plan was ready. She knew how she would distract them. She knew how to get to freedom.
