“Promise. I’ll always be here for you, Jen. Ride or die. Always.”

They said she was beautiful, in every sense of the word. Her eyes, they’re often cold, not letting anyone in, shutting down anyone not worthy in her standards. Her nose, it’s slightly turned-up, as if making you feel unwanted in her presence. Her mouth, when she opened it and words started to come out, everyone would really stop and listen. She had this aura of royalty around her that would make you hang on every word she said. Her stance, straight and good posture, never slouching, always on her full height, even though she’s small, making her look tall and proud. They said she was perfection. But they would never knew her secrets and skeletons in her closets. Only him. He’s the only one who knew how her eyes shined with tears. How her nose turned red because of crying for hours. How her mouth opened but only sobs would be heard. How she curled in a ball on their bed, or on the bathroom, sometimes in the kitchen.

They said they were a perfect couple. Maybe they were. They both were successful in their chosen career. They have their own house in Apkujeong. They were happy. But when the sun goes down, that’s when the real drama in their relationship often starts.

They were both sleeping, in their king-sized bed. But she suddenly became mumbling, and raised her hand, as if trying to hold someone in front of her. “No, unnie. I’m sorry,” she mumbled, her voice trembling, tears seeping out from her closed eyes. She jerked up, making her took short gasps as she sat on the bed, her blanket crumpled by her waist. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her heart down which was still beating rapidly.

“It’s just a nightmare, Jennie-yah, it’s just another nightmare,” she repeatedly whispered, combing her hands to her hair, trying her best to calm down. She quickly wiped the tears away. “It’s nothing. Stop thinking Jennie-yah,” she continued to whisper but flashes of her nightmares came creeping in.

“Jendeukie!!”

“Help me! Don’t let go of my hand!”

“Save me, please.”

Jennie repeatedly shook her head. No, she should stop thinking about it. She should calm down and thinking about it would only make it worse. Deep breaths, Jennie. Stop thinking about it. It’s not your fault. It’s not.

“Jen? Are you okay?” She turned and saw Kim Hanbin beside her, sitting up, rubbing his eyes with the sole of his hands. She tried to smile and shook her head.

“It’s nothing. I just have to pee. Go back to sleep,” Jennie said, hoping against hope that her voice didn’t sound like she’s gonna cry. She so wanted to cry but she didn’t want Hanbin to actually be worried. He was busy enough with his work, no need to burden him more with her problem.

She got up and quickly went to the bathroom. Closing the door and hurriedly washed her face on the sink, letting the cold water wake her up. The coldness of the water bite her face but she didn’t even flinched. She looked on the mirror, seeing a woman on the reflection. And as if her own mind was tricking her, it was not her on the mirror’s reflection. The woman looking back at her had long flowy red-dyed hair. She had a pale complexion, making her more beautiful but instead of her usual cute smile, she looked seriously at Jennie. She was wearing the same clothes she wore the last time Jennie saw her, when they went mountain climbing.

“You let go of my hand, Jennie,” she said, making Jennie shook her head, the inside corner of her eyes burning. She took a deep breath, repeatedly shook her head.
