While they waited, Icarus proceeded to once again converse with the dragon. She fascinated him beyond measure and he was eager to learn everything about her. “I wonder how,” he began; “our species are so different; when we can almost work as one through such a simple task… perhaps we’re more alike than any other species.” This perked up Hestia’s irritation; “it is naïve of you to compare yourself to me. These wings have gifted me with the ability of a god. You say we are the same but we differ more than a titan to the tiniest speck of dirt. See that you heed your words better; if I were as stupid as my ancestors you would have been crushed!! I shall show you no hostility, however, because I find your presence quite… intriguing…” she too shared extreme curiosity toward Icarus. He was taken aback at her reply; which triggered the self-esteem issues he endured in the past. He looked her in the eye which shared the same soul stealing glare.
He removed his bandages, pushed back his fringe and showed her the face of a demon’s offspring. “This,” he told her, “is me, Hestia. A monster. I bear your eye and skin on my face and terrified every person I came across. No one even knew the real me, they were too absorbed by past feuds and the inherit human nature of judgment. All they knew was a monstrosity.” But this did not frighten Hestia in the least bit, instead she was a bit flustered by his sudden draconic appearance. She peered closer into his dragon eye and felt more inclined to reveal herself as well. “Open your eyes child!” She told him. “They are the real monsters! The other dragons were envious of something I had that has long been the dream of all earth bond creatures - flight. And not only that, but intelligence as well… they were afraid. They saw me as some kind of demon that had taken their form, so for that I was subject to years of torture. I can still hear their snarls of madness, the rejection of my own family, but what sticks out to me the most is how they tore at my flesh. I began to get used to that and even proceeded to do so upon myself when their never ending judgments tried to eat away inside.
When you endure so much hell it is only a matter of time until you are consumed by this so called soul.” Icarus nodded in agreement. “Perhaps… the lesser species are more fortunate. The ones who possess more intelligence see the world’s true nature of cruelty and heartlessness. Because they cannot see that, they can be truly happy. But dear Hestia, how could you have come to hate your kind so much when they were blind to everything?”
