Who is Ryan de la Cruz

About: Ryan was born on the East end of Los Angelos the product of an affair his mother had with his already married father. Ryans father refused to acknowledge his existence and was thus "raised" by his drug addicted mother. When he was 7 his mother left him under the care of his bipolar and unstable aunt. Ryan has three older half sisters Diana ,Rosa, and Estela. Diana and Rosa from his mom and Estela from his dad. He has two younger cousins he lived with from his aunt named Harry and Peter  that he is protective of and treats as a younger brothers. Ryan also has an older brother named Montgomery whom he doesn't meet until he is 7. Ryan has dark brown hair and green hazel eyes. His mother was dark skinned latina which gave a more tan complexions than his brother. His sisters had an African American father so his sisters didn't look too much like him growing up but they  did inherit their mother's eyes. Ryan has met his mom a few times in his life once when she asked for money from his aunt and the other when she was on the street. Ryan internalizes a lot of his pain which tends to come out in a variety of ways including him accidentally hurting himself. 

Ryan's story begins when he is transferred  to a new school to finish elementary school after his aunt is arrested. Before then he spent a year in foster care where he was thought to be schizophrenic and was put on medication. 

Ryan's relationship with his older brother is strained at best. When he was young their father used to bring him around to but was introduced as his nephew and Montys cousin.  Monty not knowing they were related took a liking to Ryan thinking he was just a cousin when people pointed out their resemblance . They played baseball in the yard and threw footballs. It wouldn't be until later that they both learned the truth after Monty's mother angrily exclaims one day that she " Doesn't want to raise her husband's bastard child". To appease his wife then she sends him back to say with his aunt.   Monty has hated Ryan since he found out who he really was and blames him for why his parents split up and why his mother abandoned him to stay with his abusive father. It's only after Ryan moves in that he sees how terrifyingly wrong his new home is. His father gets drunk every-night and the first person he goes after is Monty. Ryan feels for his older brother and only wants to be closer to him. He tries everything in his power to get closer to Monty. He wishes things could go back to before and wants his brothers love. Monty believes Ryan is the  son that this father had alway wanted making him hate Ryan for existing despite wanting a  relationship with his younger brother.

Ryan meets Mirai in 5th grade after he officially moves in with his father and the tragedy that occured the year before. He initially is indifferent to Mirai and her attempts to befriend him. He eventually give in after they bond over their shared love of birds. Ryan going as far as the thing that she was the "Brightest light" in his life. Ryan almost never has lunch so Mirai shares her usually large bentos with Ryan. At some point her mother ended up making her two bentos one specifically for Ryan  with notes in them that Ryan keeps.

Ryan is introduced as the dark kid with a shady past and an even sketchier present. He doesn't tell anyone about his life not even Mirai who is left in the dark for most of the series. We later find out that he was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. He gets the nickname "Rabid dog", "Mad Ryan" , or in his spanish speaking neighborhood "perro loco" 

Ryan has a good relationship with his friends and teammates. He tends to get along with Hayden despite initially not trusting him and saying he " smells like death". but later on we see that he is cautious around Hayden because he knows more about him then he does himself. 

Ryan is the type of person that would fight with anyone if they hurt another person. Ryan comes to Connor and Harper's aid. He plays baseball and Soccer. He wanted to play football so he would be just like his brother but quit the first day of practice after he accidentally knocked a kid unconscious in a fit of rage during a tackle.
