A hospital waiting room has to be one of the nosiest rooms to ever be in. You can't concentrate with phones ringing, people shouting, machines beeping, and a whole lot of side conversations.
The doctors said they were going to admit my mother to a mental hospital a few hours away from us since that was the only place with a bed open. No police officers have talked to me, my aunt hasn't talked to me, and Anthony wasn't speaking to me either.
"I'm gonna go find a vending machine. Anyone care to join me?" I announced. They all stared at me blankly. "Taking that as a no," I mumbled before wandering off down the long halls. I searched for signs that lead me to elevators because that's usually where a vending machine might be at.
After 2 minutes of searching I finally came across one. Searching for what I wanted, I realized this machine didn't have shit. There was a few candy bars and some trail mix. People must be getting really hungry here.
I grabbed out a dollar and typed E6 into the machine and watched the candy bar slowly start to unravel. Right before it was about to drop, it stopped. "You've got to be shitting me," I kicked the stupid machine but it didn't budge. I let out a loud groan and to my surprise someone answered back to me.
"It's an old machine miss Summers," It was another cop. Hopefully the same one that I talked to last night. "I need to speak to both you and your aunt. There's no telling how long your mother will be away for and you and your siblings still need a guardian. So if you could please meet me back down in the waiting room it would be greatly appreciated," he started walking away and I followed.
I could only imagine how this was going to go down. It wasn't going to end well. I decided it's best for me to keep my mouth shut and listen. In the end, I am still the kid. I really have no say in any of this. Unfair, but what can I do?
"Mrs. Rogers, please come with me," he said to my aunt. I watched her grab her Gucci purse and flip her hair before getting up so dramatically. The spotlight always had to be on her and everyone had to know how wealthy she was. What people really needed to know was how bitchy she was.
Instead of the man taking us into a regular hospital room, he took us in to what was a conference room. I didn't even know hospitals have these.
"Shouldn't my brother and sister be here too?" I asked. He shook his head and followed with, "They're too young to process what's happening. It'll only mess them up in the long run. So, if you guys are ready I would like to discuss everything that's going to happen. Now Mrs. Rogers I understand that you are their only immediate family left that is eligible to raise three kids, is this correct?" He looked at her, then at me, then back at her.
"Well of course I am. My husband and I could house a family of five including these three," She bragged. Seriously? Was it necessary?
"So you'd be willing to temporarily house and provide care for your brother's kids?" He asked her while writing more things down in his fancy looking notebook.
"Of course I will. I love those kiddos," she flashed the most fakest smile I had ever seen. I so badly just wanted to interrupt and tell the officer how much she hates us and is probably only in this for some type of money.
"And you, Kehlani, you're okay with living with her?" He asked me like I really had any other options.
"I mean do I really have any other choice? I guess I'm fine with it," I rolled my eyes clearly irritated with both of them. She puts on this act in front of everyone and it makes me so frustrated.
"So I'm going to give you and your siblings two days to pack what you want to bring over to your aunt's house. I've already gone over with your aunt that everyone has to have their own room and she will be getting money sent to her to use strictly for you guys only. If we have any problems with that, let us know and we'll do all that we can to make everything right and comfortable for everyone. Thank you guys for you're cooperation and you guys may head back to your family," he smiled and shook our hands. I wanted to out my aunt so badly, but what was I going to gain? Not a damn thing.
