The moment I woke up, I had this weird feeling: my head was spinning; my body felt so hot, but I was freezing. I tried to get up from bed but the moment I lifted up my body, the bed immediatedly pulled me back. My body wasn't responding. Every joint in my body was hurting with the slightest amount of movement. I felt like I ran a thousand miles and was slowly dying of exhaustion. I was late for school too, so if I didn't hurry I'd be in trouble.
Mom probably noticed my tardiness and went upstairs to wake me up.
"Akira, what are you doing? You're already late!" She said as she knocked the door.
"Mom, do we have aspirin? I think I need it." I said in between coughs.
Mom quickly entered the room and touched my forehead.
"Akira, you're burning up!"
She panicked and immediately put the thermometer inside my mouth. After a minute she took it off and her eyes widened.
"Mom, help me to get up. I have to go to school."
"Your fever is 38°C, do you think I would let you go to school? Stay in your bed and rest."
"But Mom!"
I was trying to get up but Mom forcibly tucked me in bed. Resistance was futile; Mom's glare was so scary that I remained frozen in place. Then she scampered downstairs to get medicine.
It felt like needles were piercing my head. My eyes were so heavy that even if I tried to open them they still insisted on closing. I also couldn't breathe well because of my clogged nose.
I guess I pushed myself too much. Assisting the volleyball team, doing my duties as the class president, and playing the role of a tutor. I guess my body couldn't take the exhaustion and broke down.
In the end, I slept for the whole day. After resting though, I felt much better and my body felt a little bit lighter.
I was about to get up when Mom knocked on the door saying that I had visitors. I quickly fixed myself and brushed my hair before I opened the door. My friends, Hana and Shina, appeared right before me. Both of them looked worried. They hugged me as soon as they saw me.
"How could you make us worry like that?!" Hana said.
"Akira, are you feeling well now?" asked Shina.
"Sorry, to make you worry. I was planning to go to school this morning but Mom wouldn't let me." I said.
"Of course she wouldn't! How could she when you're burning like hell." said Shina.
"By the way, why did you come here? You'll catch my cold." I asked.
"We came to hand you the lectures from today." said Nana.
"Arigato! So how was school?" I asked.
"It's still boring. You're the only one who enjoys it, you know?" said Shina.
I wanted to ask how Kei was doing but it was too embarrassing. I was fidgeting on the side when the both of them looked at me.
"You wanted to ask about him, right?" asked Hana.
"Is it obvious?" I asked, embarrassed.
"Well, you only act that way when he's involved." said Hana.
"I still don't know what you see in him. He didn't even ask how you--" Hana quickly covered Shina's mouth.
"Don't worry, I expected that. Besides, it's not like we're in that kind of relationship for him to worry about me."
