As she was washing the dishes, she heard a faint voice. A song. A voice that can lull a baby to sleep in a matter of seconds.
She stopped what she was doing and stepped outside the cottage to try and get a better hearing.
Maybe someone had snuck to the beach and stayed there. Or a group of people decided to camp. But no one else was at the beach.
Confused, she ran down the shore to take a look. Still, no one. The song stopped. Only then did she realize that the voice came from the west side of the beach.
The voice started to song again. This time, she can hear it much louder, clearer. She felt she was going the right way but then she saw a figure near the rocks.
It had blue circles on it's skin. First she thought it may be a humanoid of some kind, like what she'd read from the book her mother has gifted her.
As she got closer, the more she could hear, the more she could see it. Holding back a gasp she, her eyes widened at the sight.
(Y/n) accidentally made a sound in awe, the figure noticed her and crawled back. She crept closer to it. Or rather to him.
It was a man, a beautiful man. The most beautiful that she's ever seen. He had ocean blue eyes, scales wrapped around his tail, a fish tail, his fins glowed neon blue, the slits on his sides pulsated.
"Wow." She whispered, and the man scrambled back into the sea. She was too much in shock to react when he jumped back and splashed water on her.
(Y/n) couldn't believe what she just saw. A merman. We're there any more like him out there? How long has he been stalling at the sea shore. Why has she never seen him but now?
After all these years, the day she cursed, the day she hated brought her the fairy tale she wanted. The fairy tale her mother promised her to happen one day when she was a little girl.
After a while of waiting to see if he would come back or even just take a peek, he didn't and (Y/n) sighed in disappointment.
He probably got scared and startled when she came.
"Great, I distrupted the most beautiful creature's peace. Good going (Y/n)." She told herself, huffing and walking back into the cottage.
But just underneath the waters, he was watching her. He followed her every step, until he ended at the bottom of the small cliff at the east side of the shore.
He watched her as she tried to look for him one last time, before going inside her home. The man smiled. He has never seen somebody who thought he was beautiful. He stayed at the bottom of that cliff until next morning, hoping to see her again.
And he will.
THE NEXT DAY(Y/n)
I bolted upright my bed. Ah, my head hurts. Must be because I stayed up last night waiting to see if that man will come back up, but sadly, he didn't.
