"Do you really think it's going to work?" Brittany asked me as we both continued walking towards the park. The winds were cool for summer this time of year and the leaves were falling at a soft pace as autumn was drawing close.
"I don't know," I lied. Of course it won't work, but I have to try. I want this to end. I didn't want her suffer the consequences at my house, so I thought we'd go somewhere special.
The park is where Brit broke up with her first boyfriend. It's a great story I have to share sometime, but I guess that's when I knew she would take up a big part of me life, since she opened up to me so effortlessly and comfortably. For me, it's trust that defines a relationship. It shows how compatible you are and how comfortable you feel.
But, we are here for a reason. I think I may have found a loophole for this curse some call a talent. I am trying to give it to Brit so I can be able to live a normal life and be like everybody else. I just want to be...ordinary.
You see, us Dreamers can do anything, however, it comes with having to live by three simple:
RULES:
1. Dreamers are forbidden to fall in the deep emotion known as love with their gender choice unless it's a family member or friend.
2. Dreamers are forbidden to give away their powers in any form.
3. Dreamers are forbidden to make any alternation to their hair. (This includes cutting, dying and applying heat. The use of styling products, hair ties and other accessories are acceptable and Dreamers are allocated one hair cut per year.)
Yeah. Oh, and if we break any of these rules, the person that influenced us to break the rules gets seriously injured. It's stupid and ridiculous but it's what I have to live with.
Midnight was drawing closer, so we picked up the pace. We then arrived at the beautiful garden, which was in the middle of an alley with thousands of flowers, willow trees and a shallow, sparkling river that flowed calmly.
When Brittany and her first boyfriend broke up, she never wanted to have a love again, because according to her, 'falling in love is the most selfish, careless and stupidest thing to ever do as it all ends eventually'. She thought she could love again when she dated Tommy, but when he had constantly cheated on her throughout their entire relationship, she knew she wouldn't be able to be vulnerable and open up to any other boy again. So, she asked if she could have my power. I was definitely not offended. I have wanted to get rid of my abilities ever since I could remember.
So I looked into the sub rules of the Dreamers, it's basically a list of different scenarios in which allows Dreamers to bend around the rules. For example, being in love with an animal is allowed and using bobby pins in your hair. There isn't any rule that states they watch over your actions on special dates of the year including Christmas and Easter, AND it states that you can break one rule in your lifetime as 'Dreamers are human, and humans aren't perfect'.
If they were so perfect, they'd be able to do what they want without being cautious or terrified.
I finally outsmarted them, but knowing the council, they'll eventually find out – they always do. But I don't want it anymore and I'm desperate to be able to love someone without fear. That's why I decided to try and give her my powers. Today, well, when midnight comes, is a special date because that is when the history of my gift began.
It was August 8th, 1854; these creatures know as 'Dreamers' came to Earth...wait, I already said this in the preface. We'll skip that.
Where was I? Oh, yeah.
