Today was her first day.
What you may ask?
As a counselor. Elizabeth Liones as a counselor. In a mental Hospital. People whose minds may never be healed. Many people had argued with her that she could do so much with her 'young' life. She disagreed. What was the point of thriving in life but not impacting others positively in life? The silver haired woman stopped. A glass door was in front of her now. Once she stepped into those doors, her career had started. She knew she had to be positive, if she wanted to make a change to the patients.
Elizabeth sighed and entered and walking up to the reception. There was a ginger haired man with purple eye, he gave Elizabeth a smile before pulling a deck of papers.
"Ah so you must be Elizabeth Liones right?" He asked while handing her a ID card as she agreed.
"Yes that's me."
"Cool my name is Arthur. I don't directly know any of the patients since I'm usually in this section however by the assistance of Vivian I bet you will be able to find the patients you've been assigned to. Just take a seat over there and she should be here in the next few minutes. She'll then show you around the place such as the cafeteria, sections and bathroom." Arthur explained with a smile while leaning against the desk. Elizabeth nodded and sat down in the seats that the young man had pointed to earlier.
"So what brings you here?"
"Oh me? I've always wanted to do this type of job. Ever since I was young. "
"Heh that's a pretty big dream. Most people in society would feel sympathetic towards those with mental illnesses but only a small proportion actually do something about it. I'm guessing that you are one of those people with the mentality to always those who are losing the battle with their mental health." Arthur said, leaning forward and placing a hand against his lightly freckled cheeks.
Elizabeth chuckled and looked down at the ground before glancing at a flower.
"I want to be able to help those who have been disregarded in society because everyone is equal. Just because someone is loose in the head doesn't mean they deserve to pushed to the side. Instead we must engage and aid them to a better health. Let them back to society and prevent them from becoming outlaws in some regard." She explained while brushing her fingers across the petals of the flower, she then glanced at Arthur with a smile on her face.
The ginger man was quite shocked. He had never encountered someone who wanted to let all the people shunned out of society because of their mental health problems to be accepted again. Instead majority think it is for the best that they should be separated from the public since they are unable to control themselves. Arthur was lost for words and he remained quiet as he stared at Elizabeth. For some reason, he could see potential in her. Why was that?
The silver haired woman sighed and held her notebook close. It wasn't any ordinary notebook. This notebook was going to record and find solutions to the patients problems. She opened it and took out a pen from her pocket, she started writing the time of day, month and year, below she had written 'Names' and 'conditions' as headings. The girl would spend hours out of the school day to study mental illnesses. The causes, risks and how they could be managed and treated.... In her mind. No one's mind can always stay broken, the mind can always be healed... It just needed time.
Arthur stared at the young woman who seemed engrossed by her thoughts, he then looked to the side to see Vivian emerge the hallways. He whistled at Elizabeth and tilted his head towards the woman before sitting back down in his seat and sorting out paperwork. The silver haired stood up from her seat and headed towards the woman. Vivian, she had to be in her early 30's, curly ginger hair that reached her shoulders. Her face was painted with a look of disinterest and tiredness.
"You are Elizabeth Liones correct?" She asked only to receive a nod from the woman. The ginger only sighed and signaled for her new colleague to follow her. Once the two had entered the elevator, Vivian opened her mouth after letting out another stressed sigh. "I might as well tell you your patients as that would be shorter than showing you the whole place. I will show you them now if you want me to. I must warn you though. This isn't some ordinary high school teenager therapy sessions, these are actual unstable patients at the severe end of the spectrum of their mental illnesses. " The woman warned, the cold tone within her voice just sent shivers down Elizabeth's spine. She was ready to tackle the issue!
"Understood."
The assistant nodded and looked at her clipboard while flickering through some pages.
"You have 5 patients to attend to. 4 men and 1 woman. All of whom have stayed in this facility of the building for over a year. Of course most of them arrived at different months." Vivian explained before looking at the records once more and skimming through the written information. She just cherry-picked key details of the patients.
"Youngest patient is 22 years old. Oldest patient is around about 30. Most of them don't have any remaining family members. Therefore no one ever visits them. I would be surprised if a newbie like can manage to get through their broken minds." She scoffed and smirked to herself, she then placed the clipboard under her arm and slightly glared at the new counselor. Elizabeth couldn't but have a bad taste in her mouth and weight of uncertainty develop in her stomach. She didn't like her co-worker at all. Both women stood next together in silence, the only sound produced was the elevator skipping floors.
Ding...
Ding....
..............
Ting!
Here they were. Elizabeth followed Vivian who remained silent, they walked through the hallway that led to cabinets, private rooms and possibly the patient's rooms. The ginger woman stopped and let out a defeated sigh.
"Are you sure you want to counsel these patients?" She asked with a blank face. The silver haired stayed quiet and looked down at the ground. There was no way in hell that she was going to give up now! She just got here. No. She was going to do it and no one was going to stop her. She nodded while breathing heavily.
Vivian's hand was going to the handle to what seemed to be labelled as a living room....
No turning back now.
She opened the door.
There were people inside. Silence filled the room and their eyes were fixated on the silver haired woman.
4 people were there.... These were her patients.
Hold on.
There were only 4 .
Where was the remaining one?
Elizabeth opened her mouth, she didn't know whether to greet or question. She was unable to say anything.
She then felt the force of someone tackling her...
But was it violent or friendly?
