I let out a puff of frosted air and watched it gently float up into the sky as it quickly dissipated. I could see the sky begining to light up on the horizon and I smirked before reaching next to me and tapping smooth scale.

My dragon, Vind-Troða, was napping behind me, her midnight scales glinting in the beginings of the morning sunlight. I felt the rumble in her chest vibrate through my back and I stood up so I wasn't leaning against her side anymore.

I kicked some dirt into the fire that sat in front of me to put it out before I turned and found myself staring into wide and bright yellow eyes. "Mornin', Vind ol' gal" I yawned and rubbed her snout tenderly. "You ready to go? We still haven't made it to Oden's Point yet and then there's that undiscovered place to the east."

Vind-Troða snorted in reply and shook herself out as she stretched her wings, readying herself for another long day of flying. I circled to her side, running my hand along her smooth scales as I went, I could just feel her inner fire radiationg heat through her skin.

I patted her shoulder blade reasuringly before I hefted myself up and onto her back, settling myself on the akwardly made and lumpy saddle I had strapped to her. At least it was better than riding bareback. I winced at the memory of me trying to ride her for the first time.

I slid my feet into the secures, the one on the right making a soft click as my boot slid into place. I moved said foot up and down, making the gears shift and click. I glanced behind me and watched as my handmade tailfin opened and closed with the movement. It was still working but it wouldn't last for long.

I turned back around and saw Vind-Troða glancing at me, waiting for my evaluation. I patted her neck and nodded before settling down and clicking the tailfin into 1st gear.

"Let's go"

And with that; Vind-Troða took off in a sprint then cooly jumped off the edge of the ridge we had stayed on and flared out her wingspan. I felt the tailfin catch the wind as we plummeted down and grinned. I shifted my foot and the tailfin clicked to 3rd gear.

Vind-Troða's feet just barely skimmed the water as we sharple leveled out of our dive then flew up and toward the direction of the now risen sun.

I frowned uneasily when I felt the tailfin faulter a couple of times; it wasn't going to last long, we needed to find an inhabited island.

The sun was setting and we had already left Oden's Point far behind us and had passed Luktuk a few miles ago; we had officially passed into undiscovered territory, no one from my home village had sailed past Luktuk.

The sky began to darken faster then I thought it would so I shifted into 6th gear and picked up out speed.

A dull rumble was the only warning I got before a bolt of vicious lightning zipped past us just a few feet away. I flinched and looked for a place to shelter from the storm but the only thing I could see were tall pillars of rock in the distance.

I leaned forward and urged Vind-Troða on; if we could make it through the packed together pillars we would have some protection from the lightning.

We were a few meters from the pillars when the storm really hit. A cold and harsh wind picked up as it began to thunder and hail. I maneuvered Vind-Troða left and right, still heading for the pillars, trying to avoid the lightning and as much hail as possible.

I let out a releaved sigh when Vind-Troða finally passed through the first few pillars but my relief was short lived because I noticed just how compact the pillars were. I held on tightly to the saddle and switched to 4th gear and began to swiftly dodge the pillars.

Vindr-Troða just barely made it through two especially close pillars but clipped her wing. She growled and looked at me.

"Sorry, sorry! Just bare with m-" I cut myself off with a yelp when a particularly strong wind blasted past and I felt the tailfin finally slacken.

"NO!" I yelled as we suddenly dropped from the sky. I managed to shift to 2nd gear just before we lost too much altitude and yanked hard on the saddle, helping Vind-Troða pull up.

Vind-Troða just barely managed to clear the rest of the pillars before the tailfin completely buckled. I screamed and looked around for a place to land.

The sun had set awhile ago so I couldn't see anything but my eyes widened when I spoted spots of light not to far away.

A village! And we could make it!

I turned Vind-Troða toward the lights but we were still dropping from the sky alarmingly fast. From the rate we were going we would just barely make it.

The village finally came into a clear view and I gasped. Dragons! There were Dragons asleep on several rooftops meaning.....no way!

I snapped out of my stooper when Vind-Troða let out a distressed cry. "HOLD ON, VIND!" I cried and braised myself for impact.

I heard a few dragons screech as we got closer then finally crashed into the ground. The support strap for the saddle that ran across Vind-Troða's belly snapped and I slipped out of the saddle but Vind-Troða managed to grab my tunic with her teeth and in fold me in her wings.

As we rolled, even though I was somewhat sheilded, I smashed my head on the ground though the impact wasn't as bad because it was cushioned by Vind-Troða's wing.

We came to a stop when Vind-Troða collided with something and I heard the crackling of splintered wood. Vind-Troða suddenly went limp and her wings unfolded, leaving me to limply roll out of her protective grasp.

I paniced and wanted to check if she was okay but my vision was becoming dark and my limbs felt like limp fish.

Suddenly there was a barrage of shouts and voices and I could see people coming out of there homes carrying torches. There was the sound of rushing feet and people began to head in our direction.

"By Oden's beard!" I heard a gruff man exclaim.

"A dragon!?" A woman yelled.

"A dragon's crashed!" Another man yelled but my ears had started to ring.

"Someone get the chi-" the woman from before was cut off by another.

"IT'S A NIGHTFURY!"

After that exclamation there were outbursts coming from everyone and more people with torches came closer, illuminating the area more thoroughly. I saw one of the stocky men glance down and he started when he spotted me.

"The beast has a rider!" He yelled and a few people rushed over curiously to stare at me but I shut my eyes as a wave of tiredness swept over me, no longer having the strength to keep them open.

"What in Thor's name is going on out here!?" A rather deep voice boomed and everyone fell silent, from an educated guess; it was the chief.

There was the sound of heavy footsteps that came around from behind Vind-Troða to stand in front of me. Whoever it was, was soon followed by a lighter footstep with an odd squeak to it and a much larger footstep. The larger step was probably a dragon.

"Great Oden's beard" the voice of the assumed chief breathed and it was followed by the gasp of a younger voice.

"Dad, it's a Nightfury!" The younger voice had a nasally tone to it and sounded like the speaker wasn't that much older than me.

"Aye." The chief's voice breathed, followed by footsteps coming right up to me. "And that Nightfury has a rider." I was suddenly picked up by strong and warm arms and I snuggled into the person's chest instinctively.

The person shifted my weight a little to get a better hold on me but the shift caused my riding hood to slide off and my braided hair to fall out.

There was a couple of gasps and whispers but the last thing I heard was the younger voice.

"It's a girl...."

And then I was out.

Please tell me what you think, I'm not too sure this is good or not.
