"I've had a lovely time, really. But I must be heading home," the young brunette marveled fluidly; avoiding deliberately, the gaze of the towering, well-presented soldier leaning against the wall ahead of her, who was quite eager to keep her talking, oblivious to her feeble attempts to avoid any propositions.
"Must you?" he smirked, raising an eyebrow, continuing in a suggestive tone, "We're only past introductions... there's so much more we could learn about each other."
Biting hard on her tongue, the woman smiled tight-lipped, narrowly dodging his oncoming hand to brush aside a curl of hair, and repeated, "I'm sorry, but I should go."
At this moment, Alice realized, if by just a look or the tone of his voice, she'd definitely not met the man of her dreams. She'd experienced too many times pushy, arrogant men, men who intended to exploit their nobility in the war, to know when she was unfortunately trapped by a similar character. Of course, she appreciated every soul that had a hand in fighting against the war, and was grateful to the ends of the earth for all they had done, but for some reason unknown to Alice, she only managed to attract the most unfavorable of these souls of which she had devoted her last breath to caring for.
Before her, the handsome blonde licked his lower lip hurriedly, panicked by her attempt to escape, and began hurriedly, "You know what I've done right? Are you sure you don't want to spend your time with one of your heroes?" raising an eyebrow, jutting out his jaw in an attempt to appear more intimidating, but Alice found it more amusing than intended, thinking he looked more like a kitten trying to pose as a lion.
Gathering her bag off the floor, she briskly brushed past him down the pavement, glancing back with a sensitive tip of the lips, "I thank you again for your services, Sir, but... humility has never been a bad thing," she bit her lip, holding her tongue-the culprit for the times she got in trouble- and continued on her way.
"That's rich coming from you, what scars do you have from protecting your country?!" he viscously spat from behind her after a moments silence, and she stumbled slightly astonished in his direction, witnessing him red-faced, and trembling as he struggled to keep his composure. She felt a lump form in her throat, she didn't think she would say anything to upset him or anger him this much, she didn't plan to, she just wanted to go home.
"I apologize, Sir if I've upset you," she began, approaching him steadily, her tone gentle, a complete contrast to her teasing manner beforehand, "I just hoped you would respect the fact that... I would like to go home."
"I forgive you," he grunted, "but maybe hold a gun before your so rash with your choice of words."
Alice's eyes widened at his rude remark, before blurting bashfully, "Trust me, I'd sign up if I could, but these get me turned away," she gestured to her chest playfully, turning on her heel and striding home, "It was nice talking to you," she called back, finally leaving the head strong man, flustered and bewildered.

"I'm home!"
Alice's voice resonated gently throughout the Scrubb household whilst she closed the door, peeling her coat from her arms and placing it carefully upon a hook. It had been about two years since Alice was welcomed (rather reluctantly) into their home, and although it took some time for her to get accustomed to Eustace's snarky behavior, Mr. Scrubb's ignorance and Mrs. Scrubb's frenzied self, she'd never felt so fortunate to have the chance to call a place home. Even if it wasn't hers. No. Alice had lived down the street the first eighteen years of her life, the Scrubbs being close friends of her own parents. Disaster soon struck, and suddenly, nothing else mattered to Alice Heartley.
Frowning as she was met with silence, she bound energetically up the stairs, knocking on Lucy's door, opening it to be met with the welcoming sight of the two Pevensie siblings. Despite the fact she had only known the pair just short of a year, she already felt as though they were her own family, and loved them greatly with intentions of crushing anyone who harmed them.
