"I've polished this anger and now it's a knife."
—Cathy Linh Chechapter 11
The entire time Bar was at work— he had a job at the local mechanics that Gus's dad owned and then worked a second shift at the flower shop that Gwen's mom owned and each paid good money— he was tense.
The little goddess didn't call him until it was half past midnight and when she did, they talked for another three hours before going to bed, as he couldn't sleep without making sure the little goddess was alright.
Bar didn't think it was possible for someone to worry him as much as his little sister did but Clementine proved that to be wrong.
When he woke up that next morning for school, Bar got dressed and quickly moved through his neat apartment and got to school right when the doors opened at seven.
Class didn't start until seven forty every day, so Bar had time to find the little goddess.
Or he would've if he didn't run into Gus and Fen who were arguing, or more like Gus was being a dumbass and Fen was nonchalantly insulting him.
Noticing an amused Law, Bar leaned against the lockers next to him and watched the scene unfold.
"I stubbed my toe!" Gus wailed, holding his foot as he rests against the lockers across from his best friends. "I'm gonna die!"
"I'll be at your funeral." Fen deadpanned, looking bored.
"Bring sunflowers and lilacs," He dramatically gasped out. "Dead men deserve lovely things."
"Sure." She shrugs. "It'll be a pity party and you're the guest of honor, so you get whatever flowers you want."
"You're so mean and it's only to me."
"At least you're special."
"Gus," Bar called, his voice deep and empty— how it usually is without Gwen or Clementine around. "What the fuck are you doing?"
The goof straightened up, the pain on his face disappearing as he looks towards the brute with a bright smile.
"Hey, Red!" Gus cheers. "I'm annoying AJ."
Bar stiffly nods.
"AJ?" Law questions as both him and Bar glance at Fen.
"Yep." Gus pulls a scowling Fen into his arms and ruffles her hair, making her smack him. "Aspen-Faye January Jackleson— ow! Stop hitting me, woman!— y'know, AJ?"
"Yeah." Law chuckles. "I get it now, where's Eli and OJ?"
"Elijah is with Orange," Fen said, absentmindedly holding Gus's hand when he pokes her side which results in her main annoyance grinning like an idiot. "And Orange is with Obby by the library."
"Well, Eli owes me a chess game and I have my travel board with me," Law said, then paused. "God, I'm a fucking nerd. Anyway, I'm going to go find them. Have fun with your girlfriend, Gus. You coming with me to see OJ, Red?"
"Yeah." Bar gruffs out, kicking off the wall.
"You're leaving me with this idiot?" Fen growls out as Law follows suit. "Take him with you!"
"He's your boyfriend." Law calls over his shoulder, catching up to Bar's long strides.
"No, he isn't!"
"Yes, I am!" Gus injects himself into the conversation.
"No," She mutters swears under her breath. "You're not."
