✯ Aomine Daiki ✯

"Hey, is she okay?" Kagami asked, trying to start a conversation. It wasn't of any use. I refused to talk, eat or sleep for the past day. Nothing agreed with my stomach anymore; what went in always make me vomit it back out.

Right now, what I wanted the most was for Kaede to freaking wake up.

I replayed the last voicemail she sent me, the last one before she got involve in an accident.

"Love, I know you're busy with work, but I'm on my way. I know you've been working so hard and I just feel like seeing you right now. Take care okay?" A soft chuckle. "I love you, I'll see you soon."

I'll see you soon.

I shook my head, burying my face deeper into my knees. It hurts too much.

Too too much.

A sigh was heard. "Aomine-kun, you can't be like this. You must eat."

I'm not in the mood, go away Tetsu.

Another sigh. "Come on Aomine. That stomach of yours can't hold on without food forever."

Go away, Bakagami. I eat whenever I want.

Yet another sigh. "Please? It's for Kaede-san. She wants to see you healthy when she wakes up."

My stomach grumbled by then, betraying me. I looked up just in time to see Tetsu looking down at me with an "I-told-you-so" look. He handed me the instant black pepper hotdog that he had brought from the convenience store, and Kagami settled a bottle of plain water beside me.

These two are the best of friends, I'm sure.

Grumbling, I took the bread, tore the package open and took a bite. It was soft, but the sausage tasted like rubber. The black pepper sauce didn't do any job either. I felt like spitting it back out. Though I didn't. Good thing it was warm though.

But not as warm as Kaede is when she's in my embrace.

I hear Kuroko and Kagami heaving themselves onto the ground, staring at me with full of concern. Idiots, it's Kaede you should be worried about.

Halfway though the bread, my phone rang, and immediately I picked it up without looking at the caller ID.

"Kise, got any news from?"

The call was left unanswered, the bread was left half-eaten, the drink was left forgotten with the cap open. Because I was already running to the hospital as fast as I can.

"Aominecchi, come to the hospital right now. Kaecchi just woke up."

*-*-*-*

"Kise!! Where's she?" They were the first words that tumble out of my mouth as soon as I pushed open the door to Kaede's ward.

Finding the room was... probably a little bit hard. It took a lot of effort for me to keep my cool, let alone form a complete sentence.

When I saw Kaede's body, I felt as if all the air escaped my lungs, preventing me from breathing.

Almost every inch of her that wasn't covered in clothes were practically white in color, bandaged out of her will. Some of the bandages though, failed to suppress the blood and had a sickening blotch of red on it, looking absolutely painful. She also had a neckbrace, and a painful-looking black eye on the left, with a stitched scar trailing down until the left part of her nose. Her eyes were open, though they held no life.

"Aominecchi..." Kise trailed. "Aominecchi, please, be patientー"

"What is it? What's wrong? What happened?" I shot the questions like bullets, my body becoming restless by the second, anxiety washing over me like waves trying to drown me into its depth. I took large steps to Kise and grabbed him roughly by the side of his arms, my eyes darting everywhere.

Empathy masked his face.

"Who are you?" A female voice spoke, snapping the both of our heads to the direction of the voice. The voice was small; scared; broken. And slightly muffled due to the neckbrace.

There, on the hospital bed, sat Kaede, tubes sticking out of her forearms as she glanced at us nervously.

Correction: She was glancing at me nervously.

"Kaede..?" I softly whispered, walking towards her. "Kaede, is that you, babe?"

Fear swarmed through her eyes as she subtly attempted to get herself away from me. "Who is 'Kaede'? Why am I here? Who are you? And why are you calling me babe?" Her voice rose an octave after every question, her body trembling.

It was enough to know that she was totally afraid of me. Being her other half for five years made me understand her so, so well, that I could even the subtlest distractions from her.

Just as the atmosphere is getting tense, in bursted a man clad in white from head to toe. Honestly, if I was just a brainless dude, I would say that he's a fallen angel or something. Because everything about him practically screamed white.

But I wasn't.

"Aomine Daiki?" The doctor raised an eyebrow as his eyes landed on me, and I gave my firmest nod. Yet.

"I'm Michael Stephens, but you can call me Dr. Stephens. I am in charge of Kaede here, and I would like to have a word with you."

I had no choice but to follow.

Once we exited the room, the doctor looked at me, the slightest bit of sorry before it disappeared behind his eyes. He quickly flipped through the papers in his hands, before sighing.

"We finished performing surgery on her seven hours ago, taking shards of glass that was pierced inside her body from the glass windows of the car she was inside and stitched where it needed to. She needs a lot of rest." He paused, staring at one page for far too long. "Though, she sustained quite a bit of injuries; especially at the back of her head. Among those that weren't dead, she suffered the worst injuries.

Also, the injuries at the back of her head actually caused her to have a temporary damage in the brain, and she's currently suffering from Retrograde Amnesia."

"A what?" I asked.

Dr Stephens sighed. "Retrograde Amnesia. A type of amnesia where one could not recall anything of what has happened before a particular incident. In this case, it's the accident. There's a high possibility where she may forget you. But I assure you, she's completely fine."

"Are you kidding me?" I spat, narrowing my eyes at this quack. "Then how would she regain all of her memories back?"

Unlike the reaction I expected from a random doctor, this Stephens guy calmly blinked before answering. Oooh, his face will look absolutely pretty if I rearranged it.

"It depends. Kaede would remember it all back in a few weeks, a few months, or a few years maybe. But it has been confirmed ー" he held up a hand to silence me as I opened my mouth, "ーthat Retrograde Amnesia is temporary. That means, she will recover her memories. Be patient Mr Aomine; everything will come soon."

How dare he? Who is he to tell me such things? My mother? Damn this.

I clamped my mouth shut and clenched my teeth, swearing that if what this quack says isn't true, I would personally come down here and beat the sh*t out of him.

"Now, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. If not," he handed me the papers. "Take Kaede to the hospital for a weekly or once in two weeks checkup to see how she's progressing. After she's discharged, that is." He nodded and walked away, leaving me alone in the corridor.

Nurses were passing by left and right, but I felt as though the world has turned his back to me. I leaned my back against the wall for support, but my knees felt like they were about to burst and they give in, making me slide down the wall as the first batch of tears leaked out from my eye.

Losing a loved one has got to be the worst living nightmare ever.
