Tonight was one of their late practice nights. Everyone was worn out and ready to get in bed. "Go shower before you leave because I know you won't do it if you go home." Taeyong turns Johnny, Yuta, and Jaehyun around and pushes them towards the locker room. All the others had already showered or were known to complain whenever they felt sweaty, so there was no way they would sleep before cleaning up."Tomorrow we'll go and hang out at the food court because y'all worked hard today. Y'all usually don't care to work on Fridays." Taeyong announced with a bit of annoyance in his last few words. The boys cheered lazily as they packed up their stuff to walk home. It was late so most of them paired up to walk down the dark streets together. Mark waited on Johnny, showing Sicheng and Jungwoo, who waited on Yuta, a new game he got on his Switch.
The leader began to clean up and organize the place as he waited for the others to leave. The ones in the shower took about 15 minutes before they came out with their hair dripping all over the floor. "Aish, dry your hair." Taeyong growled under his breath as he went to grab a paper towel to wipe the water up.
Jaehyun left by himself first. Shortly after Yuta and his group left, followed by Mark and Johnny. Once again Taeyong was left to lock up. He hummed in satisfaction when he was left in the calm empty dojo. He took his time cleaning up and collecting his stuff before turning out all the lights and locking the front door on his way out.He walked down the street for a little ways before deciding to listen to some music. He fumbled with his headphones a bit but finally got them connected. Before he could put them in though, he was stopped by a noise coming from an alleyway slightly further down the sidewalk.
Someone was singing. It was faint but he could hear how smooth the voice was. It was to soft to figure out much more than the fact that Taeyong thought it sounded amazing. He wanted to get closer to hear it clearer but after a few more steps the singing stopped and he could hear the mystery singer running out of the other end of the small alley.
He tilted his head in confusion, wondering who it could've been. Probably a stranger. He didn't get a good enough listen to find out if it was a male or female singing either. He furrowed his brows a bit in disappointment that the beautiful singing had come to an end. As Taeyong continued to walk he wondered if he would hear the person again.
#################
There it is. It was a few days later and Taeyong was locking up late again. He hadn't been able to hear the secret singer again for a few days due to him locking up earlier, but tonight he heard it once more.
The beautiful voice was clearer tonight, because he had been quieter and snuck closer than before. He could tell that it was a mans voice now but because of the loud buzzing of the streetlights and cars going past he couldn't quite make out what the other was saying.
Taeyong tried to get closer but he heard the person run off again. "Dang it." He noticed that his shadow could been seen from the alleyway. The boy got a bit frustrated that he wasn't able to get a better listen but just shrugged and continued waking home.###############
"I'm telling you. The past few weeks every time I would lock up late, there would be a guy singing in the alleyway. He would always run away before I could really listen though." Taeyong frowned as he told the others about what he had been experiencing. It had come to the point where he would purposely make the others practice late just so he could hear the person singing.
"It's the alley beside the theatre arts school dorms right? It's probably just one of those weirdos." Yuta said as he continued punching the targets on Johnnys hands. The leader nodded in agreement as he paced around the room. He tried to focus on watching the others practice and helping Mark out with some things but he couldn't help himself from going on and on about how curious he was.
"I can just tell that the voice is so pretty. Although I can't hear it good... I just love it." Taeyong was acting a bit out of character by rambling. He didn't know why this interested him so much.
All the others just listened and gave broad suggestions on what type of guy it could be. But Taeyong decided he was done distracting the others so he stopped talking about the mysterious voice.
He spent the rest of the day helping Mark practice. The younger had been making a lot of progress with the bit of extra help. They all ended the way they usually do. Showering, laughing, arguing a bit.
When they had all got out of the shower Taeyong gathered them to tell the members their schedule for next month. They complained a bit when Taeyong said the team would start practicing on mondays to start preparing for the local competition. It was pretty calm as they all left their leader behind to lock up. Taeyong felt giddy about getting to hear the voice again tonight. He felt like a foolish kid for being so curious, but he just had to listen.
He walked his normal path down the sidewalk to where the singing could be heard. A smile crossed the boys face when he got close enough to hear. It was a bit louder tonight and Taeyong was able to get a bit closer without being seen. This is the clearest he had ever been able to hear it. The voice was deeper yet it could still drift into a beautiful falsetto. Taeyong crouched down and closed his eyes for a second taking in the pretty voice for a little while longer. But then he got up and started to continue his walk home.
Yet this time... the singing didn't stop. Taeyong was confused. He continued to walk closer to the alley. The secret male was now singing in English. What else can this guy pull off?The leader was confused as he continued to get closer and closer to the alley but the singing still didn't stop. He paused right before he got to the entrance of the alley, he furrowed his brows. Why did this voice suddenly seem so familiar.
He peeked around the corner only to be met face to face with the chest of another male. He quickly looked up in embarrassment only to be completely shocked by who he saw.
"Jaehyun?"
The other just smiled sheepishly and gave a small bow. "Hey hyung.."
"It was you?" Taeyong was so surprised. He didn't know the younger could sing. Especially not as well as he did. The leader started to get a bit flustered as he remembered how he went on and on about how beautiful the singing was and how badly he wished he could get a better listen.
"A-ah, I uhh... didn't know you sang so well."
"Oh. Thanks hyung. Sorry I always ran away, heh.."
The youngers ears started to burn red as they both looked at each other awkwardly. "Do you mind if I walk with you?"
"Of course not." The two walked together down the dimly lit road in a somewhat awkward silence. Taeyong snuck a look at Jaehyun only to meet his eyes. They held each others glance for a while, Taeyong gulping a bit before breaking away from the others stare and filling the silence.
"Why don't you sing in front of us?"
"I don't know. I guess it just never felt like the right time. I'm not the type of person to sing all the time anyways... I just do it when I want to." Jaehyun smiled a bit a started walking a bit closer to the other. "Or when other people want to hear it." He finished cheekily.
Taeyong laughed quietly before continuing to walk with the other in a now completely comfortable silence. The two simply enjoyed each others presence as they got lost in their own thoughts. Not much longer and Taeyong reaches his apartment building.
"Thanks for walking with me." The leader smiled. "Thanks for telling everyone how much you love my singing." The younger responded slyly, bowing and walking off before Taeyong could say anything back.
The boy dipped his head in embarrassment as he entered the building and walked up the stairs towards his home.
He wondered if Jaehyun would start singing for him more often.
