/koi no yokan/ (n.) The extraordinary sense that upon meeting someone, you one day will fall in love with them.
"Arrgh, what the hell?!" The boy I pushed over asked, yelling at me while getting up back on his feet. "What's your problem?!"
"My problem is that your bothering her!" I raised my voice as I pointed at Serenity, who seemed surprised at my outburst.
"That's none of your business!" Another one of them yelled, the two other bullies approaching me.
"Leave Serenity alone, then we won't have a problem!" I hissed, making all of them become visibly furious with my words.
"Do you even know why we're here!?" One of them asked, clenching their fists and sweating with anger. However, before I could respond, I heard a voice I quickly recognized.
"Break it up." I heard Ambrose's calm and collected, yet intimidating voice order us. I could sense chills run down all three of those boys backs. The one close to attacking me had a visible bead of sweat that dribbled down his forhead, then to his neck, then was soaked into the fabric of his shirt. In situations like this, Ambrose always presents himself as the bigger problem, compared to the existing problem. He wasn't a stereotypical 'bad boy', but he's just the guy on campus that you respect enough to not mess with. At least, that's what I thought. Hearing this, all three of the boys ran off, leaving only me, Serenity and Ambrose alone.
"Are you okay?" Ambrose asked, converting himself from his scary self to his nice and respectful guy attitude.
"I'm fine, thanks for stepping in." I said while he smiled at me, happy to know no physical damage was done.
"And you? I believe we haven't met before." Ambrose asked, turning to Serenity.
"I'm fine! Thanks for interfering, I just lost a lot of paint, that's all." Serenity answered, staring down at the shattered bottles of paint.
Ambrose sighed in annoyance after hearing this. "I know all three of those boys personally, and i've asked them to stop bothering people." Ambrose started looking down at the ground, as if he took this situation far more seriously then it needed to be taken. "I'll pay for those paints, its just my way of apologizing on behalf of them."
"You really don't need to do tha-" Serenity started, but was cut off with Ambrose saying "I wasn't asking. Have a good day you guys."
Both me and Serenity watched as Ambrose walked off back into the apartment, muttering something under his breath while looking down, avoiding eye contact with anyone. This action gave me the feeling that something was off. Usually, Ambrose was a very respectful guy, he would never shove past people or ignore anyone he knows personally.
It made me think that there was more to Ambrose and those guys had some history I didn't know about.
"Well, are you still up for coffee? we can patch things up." Serenity suggested while cleaning up her paint.
'If there really was something up with Ambrose and those guys, why don't I know about it?" I continued to think to myself, tuning out Serenity's words.
"Um, Alicity?" Serenity called out to me, clearing up the storm of thoughts that clouded my head.
"Yea, lets go for coffee." I said while turning and sending Serenity a reassuring smile, convincing her that I was fine. I helped her up, and we both began walking off of the premises of the university, making small talk and enjoying the sun that danced on both our bodies.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" I found myself stating out of the blue.
"Anything!" Serenity responded while applying her focus on me.
"How do you know I'm Elias Leighman's sister? I mean I could just share the same last name..." I asked her, but ended up trailing off at the end pf my sentence.
"Well, when I asked you, you said it yourself," Serenity started. "But he also mentioned you in one of his books. I'm surprised you don't know that."
"Really? He did?" I asked, surprised. Serenity nodded with a polite and bubbly stare.
"I guess it just been a while since I've read his books." I added. Serenity didn't question why though. I think she knew why.
