If You're thinking of Writing a Cliche, Read This First:
Introduction:
All right, this was inspired by the most amazing critiquer for stories I've ever seen, Liezlhuman, whose story 'Wattpad's Most Hated' has helped me and most probably tons of others become better writers. Make sure to check that story out if you have a chance, and her other stories.
Now, onto the point of this piece of work. While she gives critiques and rants, I've decided I'll make a small piece of work about how to take a cliche story.. and turn it around. Well mixed in with my own rants, helpful ways to make your story better, etc.
Yes, everyone loves a good cliche, but a nice drama is just as good. Some romance that actually has plot and detail and decent dialogue in it is always needed in a place like Wattpad. Unfortunately, there are too many thirteen year old girls around here, who are sex-deprived and just want to take that sexual tension and stick it in a story. The result usually leaves other thirteen year olds going 'YAY OMFG UR LYK SO GUUD!' and leaves veteran authors going... 'what... just... happened?'
I'm not saying every thirteen year old on this website is a bad writer, one of the best writers I've come across on Wattpad (whose name I apparently cannot remember) was twelve when she wrote her UNIQUE story, it had amazing grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. One of my favorite published authors was also just thirteen after having her first book published.
Your age is not an excuse, quit using it as one. Yes, you cannot get any better if you don't try, but for the love of all that is holy, quit posting it on Wattpad until you've had someone edit for you, at the least.
I've seen older teens and even adults writing the same cliched, awful stories too.
But hopefully, we can get some more unique plots on the What's Hot list for the Vamps and Were readers! If you have any unique Vamp/Were ideas that you don't mind giving away, leave them in the comments for others to find them! Thank you :)
