It had been a week since I ran away from what I had so called "home". I had been surviving by hiding in alleyways and attacking monsters with whatever I had like a stick, piece of metal or, my new favorite "weapon", a hammer. That morning, when I woke up in my makeshift home made out of a cardboard box, I heard clattering coming from the opening of the alleyway. I snatched my hammer, thinking it was another horrible monster I had to ward off. As the noise came nearer, I heard...footsteps? I had no idea what type of monster I was about to face and was terrified. The footsteps stopped right next to my cardboard home. My heart was beating like crazy. I knew that if it was a monster I would have to attack it before it killed me. I then took a deep breath and lunged while swinging my hammer. I froze when someone screamed "NO!" I was facing two kids, a boy and a girl, about four-seven years older than me. The boy had sandy hair, a plain old t-shirt that probably used to be white, worn out jeans and a dagger in his hand. The girl had black choppy hair, a leather jacket and also wore jeans. I must've looked crazy because the boy gave me a strange and terrified look. Then I said frightened, "no more monsters!" They both suddenly relaxed and gave me a look of sympathy. "It's ok," said the boy, "my name is Luke and this is Thalia. We are not monsters but, are like you."
"You are runaways?" I asked, "you have no family?"
"Yes," said the girl supposedly named Thalia, "what's your name?"
"Annabeth," I answered proudly.
The boy, Luke looked at my hammer and said, "That is no real weapon, here, take my dagger." He handed it to me carefully and I took it in awe. Normally handing a seven year old a knife was a bad idea but, we were demigods. "Come with us," Thalia offered, "we will be your new family and will keep you safe." I grinned wide and nodded my head. So that is how I started my adventure to camp halfblood. I came to love Thalia and Luke and we became close. Along the way, the camp sent a saytr named Grover to lead us back but, he kept taking wrong turns and running into many different terrifying monsters. The last one was the worst. It was a cyclops. Grover had taken a turn into an alleyway and got lost. Thalia then went in to get him out but, also didn't come out. Luke went in thinking Thalia was screaming for help and told me to stay put. Then I thought I heard Luke scream for help and finally went in. Inside the middle of a maze of corridors stood a giant cyclops. It was creepy because he was talking to me in Thalia's voice. "Come hear, Annabeth, it's ok. Don't worry, I will make your death quick and painless!" Said the monster. I looked at him with horror. I knew I had to save my friends so I ran quickly around him and stabbed him in the foot with my dagger Luke gave me. The monster bellowed in pain. Fortunately, that gave me enough time to cut Thalia's bonds free and she took it from there. She cut the others lose and then rushed everyone out. When we finally reached halfblood hill, we had a long trail of monsters behind us. Thalia sprung open her favorite shield, aegis, (it could transform into a bracelet) hoping to keep the monsters at bay. It was too late unfortunately. The monsters quickly surrounded her giving her no chance at survival. Grover and Luke dragged me across the camp's borders as I screamed Thalia's name kicking the boy's shins. Suddenly there was a blinding flash and in Thalia's place stood a pine tree. The army of monsters overcome their shock and charged. Meanwhile I stood there staring in shock unable to move.
I cried for a week after all the monster disintegrated at the touch of the new border surrounding camp provided by Thalia's new tree.
