Ember's POV

I wrap a towel around my wet hair and push it up into a turban and walk out of my room. Peeking into Beth's room to check if she's home. I see that her bed has not been slept in and that a heap of clothes from last night are still lying on the ground. Which told me that she was still with Axel. Well at least one of us is happy.

I walk to the kitchen to make myself some breakfast. As I  pour my first cup of coffee for the day into my mug and start thinking about Luca and our meeting last night.

It was stupid of me to have had so many expectations from a stranger, irrespective of whether or not he's my mate. I felt confused and disappointed. There was also a lingering feeling of anger and fear that Luca would reject me despite him having given me such an indication. I didn't know much about the rejection process. Grams had told me that it hurts more than a usual break up because you lose your soulmate.

I take a bite of my toast and gaze out of the little kitchen window at the buzzing town when suddenly the doorbell rings. I run-up to the door, expecting Beth to be on the other side, back from her little escape with Axel.

"HEYYY! TELL ME EVERYTHING ABOUT LAST NIGHT!" I scream and jump to embrace the person. I recoil when my body comes in contact with a rock instead. I scowled at the man standing in front of me. Ass hat.

"Well, that's why I'm here babe." Luca grins down at me.

"THE AUDACITY! Go back you little leech. Isn't that blonde chic waiting for you at home?" I roll my eyes at him and stalk away from him, walking back to the kitchen. I hear him shut the door behind him and follow me.

"No one invited you in Luca, go away," I said halfheartedly. I was confused and hurt but it still felt comforting to be around my mate.

"Well, I'm not a vampire. I don't NEED to be invited in." Luca smirks at me as he tries to act like a smart ass.

"Look, Ember jokes aside we need to talk." He said solemnly as he sat on the chair across mine at the table.

"Yeah, we do. There's so much to say, Luca. Who was that girl last night? If you're gonna reject me just say it please." I whispered.

"NO! Of course not. I broke things off with Ella. That was a short term thing and we both knew that. She gets it." His eyes widen with shock and he takes hold of my palm. "You're my mate Ember. It'll always be just you."

My heartbeat quickens at his words and I smile at him. His eyes soften and he leans towards me.

"You have to trust me Ember."

The realization that now that I didn't even have Grams with me, Beth and perhaps Luca were the only people I could trust, hit me hard. I held back my tears at the thought of Grams. I really missed her.

"I only have you and Beth now Luca." He pulls me onto his lap and pulls the towel off my hair, my thick locks fall around my face and Luca begins to run his fingers through them.

"You'll always have me, baby. And now you'll have my pack by your side as well. We'll find your grandmother's pack soon. It'' all be okay."

"I know it's been two years since Grams passed away, but I always had college work to distract me. That's why I couldn't even spend enough time with her to figure out all the werewolf stuff. She hadn't told me about my werewolf blood until a couple of days before I shifted. I wish I'd been there more but... you never realize what you're risking until it's taken away from you."

Luca kisses the side of my head, "We won't make that mistake with each other. I'm here now. I'll teach you everything you need to know."

"This is weird. I met you last night. Why don't we feel all gross and awkward around each other?"

"No idea... We're mates... Maybe that's why it's not weird. We both know we're meant to be together. What Is the point in being weird about it, no bella? You're my main hoe now."

He starts cackling at his joke, a boyish laugh rumbling from within his chest. I lightly kiss his cheek and get off his lap.

"Well, what an honor. But, what's the plan now?"

There were so many things we had to do and we had no idea where to start.

"I'm going to need you to move to my packhouse. You don't have to share rooms with me if you don't want to yet. But I really want you to move."

"I can't just move Luca! I have a life here. I can't leave Beth. Plus, I've applied for a job here."

"Ember, you're my luna. I won't have you arguing over this right now."

"It's my life too Luca. I don't want to move. Where is your pack situated?"

"The neighboring town. It's a couple of hours away from here. You can commute to work from there EMber. It will be a little difficult but we'll find you a job in our town."

"Luca slow down! No. That's just not happening right now. I refuse to move. And since you live pretty close I'm sure we can keep meeting. I'll come with you today and we can meet your pack. But I'm not moving in with you. That's that."

"Don't disobey your alpha Ember." Luca looked at me with bubbling anger. "I just want you to be safe with me."

"Then quit arguing with your luna, Luca. We're equals. I can keep myself safe. You need to trust me if you want me to trust you."

"I'll wait in the car. Get dressed. I'll drop you back later." He huffed. He stormed out of the apartment, slamming the door behind him.

I got dressed quickly and rushed out to see him waiting with his car parked in front of my apartment, the window rolled down, as he watched me walk to the other side to slide in.

"Gas it, ding dong." I giggled.
