"Do you think I should get a butterfly? Or maybe a cross....I don't know. What do you think?"

Amberly rambled on and on. August pulled down the blinds covering the window's of the tattoo parlor they were in. She peeked through them opening her fingers between two blinds to peer outside, looking for him.

"August!" The blinds snapped shut.

"W-what?!" August asked, frightened. Amberly just sighed.

"I asked you like I dont know fifteen times which tattoo I should get." She snapped. August tried not to roll her eyes. All Amberly ever cared about was herself. August had been nothing but a good friend to her since the seventh grade, and what does Amberly do when she finds out her bestfriend had just been shot and almost killed by the most wanted man in Gotham? Drags her out of her safe haven of a home, so she could help Amberly pick out a tattoo.

"Um, yes, a butterfly would be cute." August said to Amberly, turning her attention back outside peaking through the blinds.

"Why does she keep looking through the blinds, its kinda freaking me out." The man giving Amberly the tattoo said nervously. Amber just explained what had happened to August.

"That's the girl the Joker almost killed?" The man asked, not so astonished, this isn't even close to what the Joker could have done to her, it wasn't like he hadn't killed before. August could hear everything they said but chose to ignore them. She tried to think of going back home, where she would feel safe. She could still remember the Joker's face. Gosh he was such a freak. He didn't kill like normal mobsters or murders do. He was skillful, and genius. He did his little social experiments to watch society crumble. Most people would be irritated by having a teenage girl ramble on about something they already knew and tried not to think about, and that's exactly how Amberly felt about August babbling about it.

"Okay! August all you have been freaking talking about is the Joker! I get it, I mean im not nearly as strong as you, the way you are handling this is.....great, but please just stop freaking me out." Amberly snapped. August was angry, she had always been there for Amb, but no more. Amber was so cold hearted to August and she finally put her foot down.

"Screw you and your predictable tattoo Amber. All you care about is yourself, your nails, your hair, your makeup, your car, your tan, YOUR SELF!" August screamed in the parlor pointing a finger at Amberly's chest. August was shocked at her screaming, never had she ever screamed, much less fought with somebody in public, at least not enough to make people stop and turn heads. She grabbed her grey coat off the coat rack and her fluffy white hat with a large puffy ball at the end of it than slipped them on. "Forget this." August mumbled to herself as she started walking home in the cold winter weather.

As soon as she realized she was walking alone at 5:30 at night her feet stopped moving. She looked back towards the parlor but she didn't see it anywhere in sight. She was so angry and fuming she just walked and walked until she realized she was lost. She pulled out her iPhone quickly and saw her phone was still at 93 percent.

Good, thank you God.

She was not going to be stupid and just stand there. She went into her phone and pulled up Appstore, looking for mapquest. She waited for it to download and once it did she noticed it was almost dark now.

Curse you Day Light Saving Time

She thought. She looked at the street name and number and typed in where she was at. It showed she was only about 10-15 minutes away from her house. She dialed in her Mom's number, her mom was still at work and wouldn't be home until around 6:45.

"Mom im lost and I-"

"Lost? August where are you? How could you be lost, did you leave the house when I instructed you not to!"

August gritted her teeth. "Look- Mom. Amberly dragged me out of the house, and we had a fight and now im trying to get home. Its freezing. Im about ten minutes a-away f-f-from h-home" She soon couldn't stop her teeth from chattering and pulled her coat closed even though it was already zipped. She listened to her mother rant about how she shouldn't trust Amberly, and to immediately go home then to call her when she got home.

August practically sprinted through Lumbar street onto Hillingar drive only to find herself back on Lumbar street.

What?

She was confused and lost. She looked around following her mapquest's instructions only to wind up in a circle. The fifth time around she was ready to give up and just call the cops sounding like a stupid and lost tourist. As she was hesitating on who to call or what to do a voice called out to her.

"Hey, you need help or somethin." Somebody screamed. She looked over to the voice, a man in a trench coat and a hat stood under a street light, the only source of lights now that the sky was pitch black.

"Uh- yes" Dont be stupid August he could be dangerous. She kept a good ten feet away from the stranger.

"Well, you lost or somethin? I can't help you if you don't tell me what's wrong?" The voice sounded odd. Nasally even.

"Ugh, well I live around here and I lost track off time. Im trying to get home, but I keep going in a circle." She showed the stranger the opened app on her phone. She couldn't see his face, the hat casting a shadow. But she could tell he was tall and lengthy.

"Hmm, I see. Now why don't you tell me your real problem August. Who are you so afraid of running into?" The voice nasally spoke, a hint of dark humor in his voice. August felt like she was going to puke.

RUN

But she didn't listen to her mind

"What did you say? How do you know my name?"

"All I said was take two lefts, a right, then go straight and your development should be around there." The voice laughed, a familiar laugh.

August just stood there wide eyes, "T-thats not what you said."

Am I going crazy, RUN, I am, im going crazy, RUN AUGUST SHUT UP AND RUN

The figure stepped towards her and she took a step back. For a split second the hat blew in the wind lifting the shadow. And she saw what was under the shadow, a clown. Wether it be a mask, or makeup she new who it was.

She turned on her heel and ran. Two lefts and go right

Hot tears ran down her face as she stayed on the sidewalk. She ran a left and than another. Looking back to see him gaining on her. She tripped and continued running and sprinting the cramp in her stomach growing and causing her to slow down. Trying to remember the rest of the directions she somehow found her development only a few more feet until she reached her haven. He was still behind her. But she knew she had slowed down a lot, and he was still running fast. He was going slower purposely. He loved the chase, he loved playing cat and mouse. He was the cat and she was the mouse. Her theory proved correct when she ran up her apartment steps into her door fidgeting with the lock to open. For the second she looked behind her she saw he was causally leaning up against yet another lit street lamp watching her go into her house.

He already knew where she lived. She knew what he wanted, to scare her, to watch her squirm in fear. Knowing he could be like a snake a strike at any moment, waiting for the prey to move. She opened her door and slammed it shut after sliding down the side of the wall hysterically crying while somehow between the blurry tears in her eyes get her phone out.

The phone lit up her red and flushed face, hard to see with tears in her colored iris's. She dialed 911 before she dropped her phone after she felt the hard wind hit her as her front door was knocked down.
