I stirred in my bed. My birthday was in less than an hour and I couldn't sleep. Tomorrow was a big day. My dad was holding a party for me for the first time since my mom had passed. I was excited. Really excited. All my friends would be there. Cousins I haven't seen in a long while. Gifts. Little did my dad know was that I caught onto his surprise. I wasn't supposed to know about the party but I overhead my dad on the phone with his sister-in-law.
I looked at the digital clock on my night stand that said 11:59pm. One more minute and I'll finally be-
12:00am
The room started spinning. Everything around me quickly went black. I felt as though I was falling. My body seemed lifeless. I couldn't move a muscle. I tried to open my eyes but I wasn't even sure if they were already opened. I spiralled down to what seems like infinity then suddenly, I came to a stop. I was a small whitedot in front of me. I squinted my eyes to see what it was but instead I felt my body being pulled up to the dot with raging speed. I can feel the wind through my hair as I came closer to the light.
I was pulled to my feet on a path made out of clouds. The path way seemed soft but was as hard as concert and warm under my bare feet. Large golden gates towered over me. A lump formed in the back of my throat as my head bent back ninety degrees. "Julie Harrington, this way please." An angel stood before me dressed in all white. His wings were three times the size of his muscular body and his eyes were a captivating shade of bright orange.
"Julie Harrington?" He questioned me. I hadn't realize that I was standing in front of him and starring at him as though, "You look like you've seen a ghost." His forehead creased with confusion but a smile peeked his pink lips. "You're...you're-" I began saying before dropping to the cloud.
"Julie Harrington?" The angel slapped my cheek. I slowly opened my eyes to see the angel over me. He held my head in his palm. I looked up at him and blinked continuously. "I'm dead aren't I?" I asked. "Yes." He clarified. Before I knew it I was out again. "Julie Harrington?" My cheek was beginning to get warm as though a fever was overcoming it.
I slowly open my eyes once more, " You really ought to stop that. Isn't good for the clouds" The angel said. "Oh jee thanks. Not that I'm dead or anything!" My overdramatic spells began. "The Lord wants Julie Harrington right away Lucisreal." Another angel flew to us. This angel however was cloaked in glowing gold fabric that embodied a dress like shape. Her eyes were sparkling yellow and you can sense the pure innocence radiating from her slim body. Her wings were golden, the same colour as her clothing.
The angel Lucisreal, as the other angel called him, stepped away from me and allowed her to carry me into the gates. She held my hand and flapped her wings. I looked back at Lucisreal and couldn't help but notice how far away from the gates he stood and at the side. You could barely see him but as soon as we entered into the gates, even though you could see the spot he was standing, he wasn't there. It was like he had just vanished without moving a muscle.
A palace as tall as Mt Everest and made entirely out of gold shone brightly in front of me. Within seconds the angel had carried me inside the palace and there he sat. The Lord himself. In an enormous golden throne made for someone great than a king and at his right hand sat Jesus, his son.
"Thank you Winnifree." He said to the angel before she flew away. I stood speechless in front of God. When I caught some sense I knelt down before him. "Julie Harrington, daughter of Julia Harrington." He deep voice filled the palace, bouncing off of every corner. "My Lord." I said, politely to him. "You may stand." He said. I stood up straight but my fingers fidget at my sides. "I have brought you here for a day to see you mother as per your request." He held up the letter between his fingers. My eyes widened.
How? But but... HOW!?!
God's face lack emotion, so did Jesus. Both sat in harmony, complete peace. Their beauty however was beyond imagination. Chiseled jaw, toned face, bright yellow eyes, long, silky, shoulder lenght hair that showed brown from the sun rays peeking through the palace. "I...uh...I-"I stuttered. I couldn't find my words as though they were lost. "You will be allowed to see your mother every year on your birthday only if your do not involve your innocence in sin. You are allowed into heaven as long as you do not fall in love or engage in sexual intercourse with a man of flesh. If your are to disobey my orders then both you and your mother will be cast out of heaven and onto Earth where your souls will roam for eternity." God explained to me.
I could hear the pounding of my heart in my ears. I understood every. Single. Word. He said. Fear trembled through my fingers. Anxiety picked at the hair behind my neck causing it to stand pin straight. Every birthday until I die I will be able to see my mother? Have one day every year where I can see her like visiting hours? I will be dead for an entire day and come back alive the next day?
I knew the answers to all those questions amd for some reason I agreed, "I understand my Lord." He looked at me with ceetainty, " Gabriel, carry her to Julia Harrington." God said.
