Chapter 1: I Made Out With a Kitty Cat

I take in a deep breath, flattening my teal dress that I know compliments my amber eyes.  I touch my hair, making sure that every midnight strand is tucked delicately in place; my fingers skim the small silver tiara.  “Are you ready?” a deep voice asks behind me, making a shiver roll down my back in delight but I don’t turn around.  My eyes look around me, but never looking back.  I feel like I’m here… but at the same time I feel… like I’m not myself.  I nod, signally my confirmation.  I take in a deep breath trying to calm my nerves.

Two hands on my shoulders make me jump, but I soon relax as they massage my neck.  “It’ll be okay Dylan.  They’ll love you,” he says, his breath blowing warm breath around my neck.  A shiver rolls down my back and I scrunch up my eyebrows as butterflies run rampant in my abdomen.  This doesn’t feel right.  “Just like I love you.”

My heart leaps as my back tingles as he kisses my neck, my brain finally kicking into action.  I shake my head pulling away, but he yanks me right back.  “No!  This isn’t right!” I scream, trying to get loose as a burning sensation scorches my neck and back.

“Don’t fight it!” he says sternly, holding me closer as I struggle more.  The tiara falls on the ground, resounding through the empty hall.  I feel tears escape from my eyes as it feels like someone is taking a torch to my neck and back.

                “No!”

“This is your destiny Dylan!” his harsh voice growls in my ear his hands crushing my shoulders making me scream even louder.  “You belong to me!”  His hands tighten on my shoulders, not helping the fire rolling down my neck and spine.

“Never!” I scream, elbowing him in the gut, releasing his hold on me.  I fly down the hall, away from him.  I trip, falling down the few stairs, but I get right back up, ignoring the blood running down my temple.  I kick off the heels, gathering the silky material in my hands as I flee into the dark gardens.

“You belong to me, and me only!”

I jump awake; my arms moving wildly around me for a few seconds before I fully wake up.  I lay back down, wiping a hand against my sweaty forehead.  You belong to me.  That voice echoes in my ear as I try to calm my heart.  I glance at my alarm clock, groaning.  Class starts in an hour.  I get up shakily, the sound of rain pattering against the window my only company.  I shiver as the cold begins to seep into my small apartment, and I quickly grab my robe and run into the shower, letting the hot water scorch my freezing skin. I shiver and try to ignore how similar the scorching water was to the burning in my dream.

After a refreshing twenty minute shower, I step out of the spray of water- my dream almost completely forgotten.  I wipe a hand to clear the fog off the mirror and stare at my face, frowning at the bags under my amber eyes.  After a long, and heated, discussion with my friends, we finally settled that my eyes were amber, not red.  I touch the light purple bags under my eyes, making a promise to myself that I'll go to sleep earlier.  I walk out of my bathroom, my fluffy robe protecting my body from the cold.  I throw on dark purple knitted tights and a warm dress, slipping on a pair of boots to make sure my toes stay warm.  I quickly blow dry my wavy black hair, pinning my bangs back to keep them out of my face.  I slide on a rubber band and quickly walk out of my room.  I slip into my black pea coat, a bark alerting me that Marcus is awake.
