Soon, there is an announcement made telling us that it’s time to leave. Stephen and I walk out together.
“Can I tell you something?” I ask at the same time he says “I need to tell you something.” I laugh. He holds the door for me as we reach the front. I nod my thanks.
“So, you go first,” he tells me. He lets the door close and starts to walk next me. I sigh. I’m nervous to tell him. How do I start? What if he doesn’t feel the same way? What if I screw up our relationship even more? Just do it, I tell myself.
“Well, um, I need to tell you that,” I say. How do I put it? I take a deep breathe. “Well, I like you,” I say finally. I stare down at the sidewalk.
“You do?” he asks. A smile starts to form across his face. I half expect him to laugh at me. He doesn’t though. “I was gonna tell you the same thing,” he says happily.
“Seriously?” I ask surprised. I wanted to do a happy dance. I wanted to jump up and down. I wanted to implode.
“Yes. I’ve liked you since I met you. You’re… beautiful. How could I not like you?” he asks. I blush and smile.
“I’ve liked you since we met, too,” I say. Then suddenly I feel a hand in mine. I look down to see that Stephen has removed his hand from his pocket and has placed it in mine.
My day couldn’t get have gotten much better.
