"Akeela we really just graduated!" My bestfriend Dava shrieked running up to me before rapping her arms around my petit form.
Now she knows I can barely stand in these heels.
"Yes! We really did! I'm ready to get out of here! Get away from all these evil teachers, petty females, and immature boys." I reply while we unwrap from each other arms.
"Girl, I know that's right. And we're going to be in Cali next week, this is crazy! I still can't believe it! I'm graduating at 16, who in the world graduates at 16?" Dava went on her little rant while spinning around looking at all of our fellow classmates. She's so extra. Her red gown matches about 200 other students here, including mines.
"You always doing the most" I laughed, "and only you because you're super smart". Dava stopped her spinning and looked at me as if I just cursed at her.
"Man, stop saying that. People be believing you and be expecting too much from me" . She replied with a serious face.
"Gon somewhere." I said rolling my eyes and smirking. We were going to be roommates soon in a new state. We would leave the upcoming Monday and start anew.
And I couldn't wait.
Monday
Looking behind me I saw my little brother sleep with his iPad still singing in his hand. I would miss him but honestly I was tired of always watching him. Don't get me wrong, I love my brother, but he isn't my kid.
I turned but to the front and looked to my left at my mom. She looked slightly nervous and deep in thought as she drove. Deciding not to disturb I got back to my phone and text Dava say that we were 10 minutes away from campus. She had rode with her mom and brother. She responding with a simple 'kk' and left it at that.
Since we were getting close I deciding to look into my window over head to make sure my lashes were still in tack and relined my lips. My outfit was simple, for it was only move in day, being a pair of black leggings with a graphic tee.
Looking out of the mirror I saw that we had arrived to my designated dorm hall, Chadbourne. My mother pulled into the loop that was meant for the incoming students to unload their cars. Their were girls and guys getting out of their cars in the loop. Some girls were over dressed in my opinion. I don't understand why you needed to dress up just to do manual labor by unpacking and going back and forward from the car in the hot sun, but to each their own.
Here I would start my new beginnings.
4 hours later
Dava and I stood outside Chadbourne waving to our mothers' receding vehicles. They both had to work on Wednesday and our brothers couldn't afford to miss any more school. It took 2 entire days to drive all the way to California from Ohio so they had to head back right away to make it back my Wednesday.
Once their cars was out of our lines of sight, I turned to Dava and said with excitement in my voice, "Here we go!"
She smiled back at me, "Yes, here we go! Yep! Here we go.... to the store to get something to decorate our boring dorm room!"
"I been told you to start getting stuff for our dorm. I'm been ordering things off of Wish for the past couple of months. Everything's cheap and cute on there."
"I don't have that type of patience, it takes forever to arrive."
I just looked at her in disbelief. So she would rather not plan ahead and order something for cheap, then wait for the last minute and waste money? Okay then, as long as she knows I'm not paying for anything.
