Cassidy blinked rapidly as orange juice dripped down her face, her expression a mix of disbelief and shock. She looked at Warren who was sitting next to her, equally drenched in a variety of items from the lunch menu—corn, chips, and miscellaneous leftovers.
"Warren," Cassidy muttered through gritted teeth, her tone a mix of annoyance and concern. "Don't," she warned him, her eyes locking onto his, silently pleading him to hold back his usual hot-headed tendencies.
The Pyro, however, had already surpassed the boundary of fury and was now seething with anger. He had lost all control after realizing that Will Stronghold, of all people, had caused the accident. In that moment, his mind focused solely on retaliation, completely disregarding Cassidy's words of caution.
Cassidy let out a weary sigh, her resignation palpable as she watched her lover stand up and turn towards his current target. Despite her frustration, she knew that there was little she could do to stop him. Her head ached with a mixture of mild anger, knowing that her words would fall on deaf ears.
"Uh...sorry," Will muttered in a soft tone as he rose from the ground, his words barely audible.
Warren retorted with venomous ferocity, not giving the younger male a chance to fully respond. "You will be," he growled, his voice filled with barely contained anger and determination.
The Stronghold instinctively swallowed in response to Warren's menacing demeanor, his gaze briefly flickering towards Cassidy as she composedly wiped off the orange juice from her face. For a few moments, he braced himself for her to join in the confrontation, but to his surprise, she appeared indifferent, focused solely on cleaning up the mess around her.
When her eyes eventually met his, he involuntarily flinched, surprised by the brief eye contact. However, she mouthed something silently, "Sorry for whatever is about to happen." Despite her lingering unease around the Stronghold, she still held a sense of decency, recognizing that the one about to face Warren's wrath deserved a shred of sympathy.
Will looked back at Warren, swallowing nervously as he attempted to de-escalate the situation. "Let's not do this," he pleaded, his voice wavering.
Warren advanced closer, his voice filled with anger and resentment. "You think you can do whatever you want just because your last name is Stronghold?" he spat out, his words dripping with disdain.
"I'm sorry my dad put your dad in jail, but..." Before Will could utter another word, Warren intervened, grabbing ahold of his shirt with a firm grip.
"Nobody talks about my father," he repeated, his voice low and menacing, as his anger flared.
In a matter of moments, blows were exchanged, the surroundings quickly becoming chaotic as a fight erupted. Cassidy instinctively moved to the sidelines, where the rest of the crowd had gathered. Despite her familiarity with Warren's past fights, she was taken aback as she witnessed this was the first time he fought using his powers to this extent. Normally, she would intervene, but this time, she was uncertain about how to prevent the altercation from escalating further.
Cassidy's powers had the potential to magnify Warren's strength if she attempted to intervene, which made her hesitant to do so. It was something she would only resort to as a last resort, and given the number of onlookers present, she was acutely aware of the dangers of getting involved in a fight that wasn't directly hers.
However, the course of events suddenly took a sharp turn when Will Stronghold, who supposedly lacked powers, suddenly tapped into his father's strength. This remarkable development caught everyone off guard, including Cassidy.
Cassidy's eyes widened in surprise as she witnessed Will's unexpected display of strength. She couldn't believe that the rumors about him being a sidekick without powers had been false all along.
Despite initially feeling uneasy around Will, Cassidy couldn't help but sympathize with him as she anticipated the weight of expectations that would undoubtedly be placed upon him.
