The intense battle between Warren and Will had reached a chaotic climax, with the cafeteria left in tatters and Principal Powers stepping in to bring the confrontation to an end. Both boys were promptly taken to the detention room, a place even the Pyro had never set foot in before.

Warren found himself sitting silently in the detention room, somewhat taken aback when the door opened and Cassidy walked in, sporting an irritated frown on her face. Before he could utter a word, he noticed her turn her head to the side, a pout evident on her features.

Warren was well aware of the reason behind her anger—she was upset with him, and he couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment in himself. He had experienced her anger on multiple occasions during previous detentions, but this time, he knew that her anger was heightened because he had resorted to using his fire.

Cassidy's voice cut through the silence, her words edged with determination as she issued her warning. "When we head to work today, don't expect me to rescue you from a lecture from your mom and aunt," she stated firmly, her glare unwavering. With a huff, she turned away, making her irritation palpable.

Warren leaned in slightly, a sly smirk tugged at the corners of his lips, and he turned his head to look behind him, ensuring that his words could only be heard by Cassidy. "But tell me, Cass," he began, his tone tinged with mild amusement, "Why are you in here with us?"

Cassidy flinched momentarily, her lips pursing into a pout once more. She couldn't help but feel a tinge of shame for what she had done, as she firmly believed in using her powers only when absolutely necessary, not for trivial matters such as this.

The reason she found herself in this detention room, where powers were nullified, was due to the hurtful comments made by one of the spectators who had witnessed the brawl between her boyfriend and Will.

"He'll be just like his father"

Cassidy seethed inside, her anger welling up within her as she recalled the words.

She detested being shunned with whispered hushes and stares, but what truly ignited her anger was when people compared her or those close to her to their parents. It was an especially sensitive subject for her, capable of triggering a response that she couldn't fully control. Fear would wash over her, as the words planted doubts deep within.

And that was the biggest fear of all. The notion that perhaps they were correct, that the whispers and stares held a grain of truth.

While she acknowledged that sometimes it was better to simply ignore the hurtful comments, there were moments when her emotions took control, and she felt compelled to respond. She would justify her actions, convincing herself that some things couldn't be left unchallenged. However, a sense of guilt would usually follow her actions.

Cassidy muttered, her voice tinged with anger as she faced him, "I know they think it, but someone actually said it."

Warren shrugged nonchalantly, his hand reaching out to gently pat hers. "It was bound to happen eventually," he commented, his tone almost nonchalant. "So, who's the one they were talking about? You or me?" he asked with a hint of curiosity.

Her response came quickly, without hesitation. "You," she stated firmly, her expression a mixture of defensiveness and determination.

Warren couldn't help but crack a grin at her words, his voice teasingly filled with affection. "My hero," he teased softly, a hint of playfulness in his tone.

"And don't think that this gets you off the hook," she added, her voice laced with feigned sternness. "I'm still mad at you," she said, turning away from him and adopting a pout, signaling her continued annoyance.

Warren chuckled softly, leaning back in his chair and intentionally keeping his expression neutral, not wanting to give the Stronghold any hint of vulnerability or insecurity. He was determined to maintain an air of intimidation, not wanting the younger male to see him as anything other than confident and in control.

Will turned around subtly, trying not to make it too obvious that he was eavesdropping on their conversation. He pretended to focus on something else, but his ears remained attentive to the words being exchanged between Warren and Cassidy.

As he tried to make sense of their conversation, Will found himself feeling a mix of fascination and curiosity. Despite their words being vague, his mind couldn't help but turn to the newfound discovery of his own powers.

As he pondered the circumstances that led to his power awakening, Will couldn't help but wonder: If the fight with Warren hadn't occurred, would he have ever discovered his powers? Would he have forever remained unaware of the potential within him, never truly testing his limits?

The fight had not only confirmed the existence of his powers, but it had ignited a sense of excitement within him. It prompted him to consider the possibilities and potential hidden in the depths of his abilities.

Strangely, in some way, Will found himself feeling a sense of gratitude towards the fact that he had been tripped. Without that accidental stumble, he might have never discovered the hidden powers within himself.
