Conscious Crying and a Confession

I had sat there for a while, crying my eyes out. I didn’t notice my name being called over and over as the voice steadily got closer. I didn’t notice anything until arms wrapped around me. I felt strangled for a moment, but upon realizing it was comfort and not an attack, I tried to breathe slowly, waiting for the nausea to take me into my subconsciousness, but it never arrived. Arthur eventually pulled away to look at me. “Tell me what happened the first time. “Tell me what made you get the bloody disease.” It wasn’t a question or a comment, it was an order. The way he said it in such a soothing tone made me know he wouldn’t die of laughter or something.

“I’m sorry for lying, I just-” He hushed me by again holding me as I sobbed useless apologies. Eventually, I contained myself enough to slide out of his lap. I looked at him with the little bravery I mustered, “If I tell you, can you give me something in return?”

“Of course,” he replied evenly. Then he waited ever so patiently for me to collect my broken composure. I took a deep breath, one after the other, even though I’d just start sobbing again.

“Again, I was nine, but It was way different. Mother, Father and I had gone out to eat at a fancy dining house. It was walking distance, so we saved the car the trouble. We were coming back with stuffed stomachs. We were passing an alleyway when a group of teenagers jumped out, accusing my parents of some insanity. I had gotten caught, and while the police were hot on the gang’s trail, they still had time to beat me every chance they got. I was put into a hospital for rehabilitation and they found the disease. It scared me so much! To this day, at a sixteen year old, it scares me,” I explained. Yes, I was sobbing again, but now I was on the verge of unconsciousness.

England stood up, helping me as well. He led me into the house for the second time today, but instead of dropping me off at the couch, he led me straight up to my room. He let my bury myself into the covers before he left the room. I vaguely remember seeing the time at  12:00 exactly and hearing the doorbell. Then consciousness left me to wonder who it was.
