She wanted more.
She lost her money
She lost her husband
She lost her children
Well,
She didn’t want those.
Not the children.
She could live without them.
The world could, she believed.
Nobody needed those rascals.
Those innocent mistakes
When her new husband had two
She almost left him.
But he had too much
She could just get rid of them
Forever
Nobody would know
Nobody would have a clue
Like anybody would care.
She played it sweet
She played it innocent
She acted like she loved the children
But her lies couldn’t get past them
They knew the truth
They tried to tell their father
But he didn’t believe them
The stupid rats almost foiled her plan
Too much money was being given to them
Being spent on them
That was her money.
And it was going to them
“Mary dear, would you watch the children while I go to another town this weekend.
I may get a raise. Then we could go on a vacation, as a family!”
“Ok. I can watch them”
Oh I will. But it wouldn’t have to be for long
They wont last long enough for me to lose sleep.
They begged him not to go.
But he promised a vacation.
Somewhere fun
Oh they will have fun where they will be going
We waved goodbye
And the children ran upstairs to their room.
They refused to eat the food I made them
They are too smart.
I would just have to cause an accident.
But what?
I know
I grabbed some gloves.
“Oh Richard? Would you cut up some mushrooms?”
“Yes, Ms. Mary.”
“Gerta? Go wash up.”
I waited until Richard held the knife and began cutting.
I took different knife. And ended his life with a single stab.
Through the back, into the spine.
Gerta was behind me.
“Why are you so bloody, Mary?
Did Richard hurt himself?”
“Oh yes, Gerta. Badly. I think he may die.”
I turned around and faced the young girl.
She was frozen with fear.
“Ms. Mary! What are you doing? What happened to Richard?”
“the same thing that will happen to you, dear.”
She tried to run, but the knife got the back of her neck
And she fell.
I placed he knife in Richard’s hands.
And threw away the gloves.
I screamed as loud as my lungs allowed me to.
Soon, police was there.
A neighbor approached the officer controlling the crowd. And let her into the crime scene.
She talked to a detective.
She motioned towards an officer.
“Why are you so bloody, Mary?”
The detective asked me.
“I had to defend myself. I had to stop Richard from hurting anyone else.
I had no idea he would hurt his sister.”
The neighbor said something.
“Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary. Bloody, liar, Mary.
I saw you
I saw everything.”
“Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary.”
The crowd chanted.
Then she felt something hit her back.
Something pierce her skin
Then all was red
Bloody red.
