The three planned all week at school, and in a group chat, what they were going to do.
They all decided that they would go to Tracie's since they live right next to the building. They would obviously eat enough during the day so they don't get hungry, bring pepper spray and a bat for protection, and then leave around 11:30 to be sure that Tracie's mom was asleep.
It was foolproof.
Sarah and Heather walked up to Tracie's front door and knocked.
Tracie opens the door immediately afterward. "Hey, guys."
The two waved, and Tracie took a deep breath in, before letting them inside.
Sarah and Heather have never been to Tracies, and it wasn't because they didn't want to. Tracie has been paranoid about their housing looking like a train wrecked into it, and that they would judge them and their mom for the house. This would never be the case, but the two didn't want to make Tracie think they were dismissing their feelings. So, they never pried.
They discussed them coming over, and Tracie finally agreed, but they very evidently were detail cleaning and Heather could tell from the heavy smell of bleach that lingered when they got there.
Heather spun around and smiled down at Trace.
Their house was beautiful. Nothing too glamorous, but homey.
"It looks amazing in here Tracie," Sarah said.
"Thanks! I've been cleaning all week." Tracie admitted, and the girls chuckled.
"We can tell." The two said at the same time, making all of them laugh.

They all sat on Tracie's floor. Their white walls were scattered with posters, flags, and little fairy lights strung around. Their room was nicely organized, and it smelled like sage and cinnamon.
Weird combination, but it worked.
"Your room is literally adorable Trace," Heather said, and Tracie smiled. "Thank you!"
Heather crossed the room towards the window. The curtains were open, and you had a nice view of the old pizzeria.
Well, as nice as you could get with it being in disarray.
It was getting dark, but you could see purple and pink paint chipping from the walls, and glass was shattered in one of the very small windows. Moss and plants were growing on the sides. The other two joined her, and they all looked out the window.
"Y'know, I can sometimes see shadows through that broken window?" Tracie said.
The girls looked at her.
"Really!?" Heather asked, excited.
"That would have been nice to know!" Sarah exclaimed.
"I just thought about it, my bad...heh," Tracie said, rubbing the back of their neck.
Heather smiled more, and looked at the building again, trying to see if she could see anything. She looks at Sarah, "You have nothing to worry about girl, this will be fun!"
"And who knows, maybe I am just, uhm, paranoid? I do have anxiety and all that dumb shit..heh." Tracie explained, and Sarah sighed. "If we end up becoming a legend, you are at fault, Heather."
"We won't! We have a great plan that has to work!" Heather exclaimed.
"Mhm." Sarah muttered.
"Eleven o'clock, please come sooner!" Heather said and went and plopped down on Tracie's bed.
***
"So, how's your plan going Heather?" Sarah asked.
It was eleven-forty-five, and they were struggling to get in.
Because they never thought about a way into the building.
"Listen, it works great AFTER we get in!" Heather said, grasping at the door, trying to pull it open.
"Heather let me try," Tracie said. Heather steps back, and Tracie stares at the door for a second.
"Hm...I don't know. Sarah, what do you think?"
"What I think is that we should go back to your house and this was a waste of time," Sarah said, arms crossed.
"Nope! No pessimism right now!" Heather said, and Sarah sighed. "It's not pessimism, it's simply stating a fact, Heather!"
Heather stared at the door before an idea popped into her head."Trace, move."
"What?""Move, I have an idea!"
Tracie stepped back, and as soon as they did, Heather ran and pushed into the door.
The door came right open, as Heather turned back to them,
"It's a push door!"
Sarah and Tracie stared at Heather and Sarah shook her head."That...That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen."
Heather looked around and waved them in. "C'mon! Don't wanna be caught!"
