After a bit more of band practice and Yo trying to get Kyle to sing something, to which he promptly refused. After that, they had decided to get coffee since, y'know, what college student doesn't drink coffee? Well, Kyle, but he was the exception. They decided to walk to the cafe nestled into the side of the main building, also being student-owned. The four decided on a table by the window, Chum Chum and Yo deciding to sit on the same side of the table, which left Kyle and Toby sitting next to each other, then Yo leaving to order their drinks and Chum Chum heading to the bathroom.
Kyle leaned his elbow on the table, propping his head in his hand as he stared out the window, the searing hot feeling of awkwardness seeping through him. He glanced over to whatever Toby was doing, making sure to just peek out of the corner of his eye, not wanting to seem like he was just blatantly staring. It seemed he had produced a pen from his pockets, scribbling furiously at a napkin, his tongue poked out in intense concentration. Kyle couldn't see exactly he was putting on the napkin, but he wouldn't let his curiosity get the better of him, noticing Toby moving, so he quickly moved his eyes back to the window to make it seem like he hadn't been staring. He only looked back when he realised the napkin had been slid over in front of him. He stared down at it, cracking a smile at the goofy but rather well-drawn image of himself when he was younger, looking quite bothered with his arms crossed. "It's you," Toby said, a grin in his voice as he watched Kyle take his pen and start drawing something next to his younger self.
He slid the napkin between them, smiling at his addition to the art, albeit not as good looking as Toby's art. It was an image of Toby back when he was Fanboy, bouncing up in the air and spewing something nonsensical at the drawing of Kyle. "It's you," Kyle echoed, snickering as he watched Toby light up at the little image. "I'm guessing you're an art major, yes? This is really good," he hummed, glad their little ice breaker made him feel much less tense.
"It's not that great, but yeah- that's sorta why I'm doing the art classes, to get better at it," he hummed, "but you're already really good at magic, and it's not like there's a magic class here, so what are you doing?" he quizzed, his full attention clearly on Kyle as he scooted a little to be turned more towards him.
Kyle shrugged, "biology, chemistry, zoology, physiology. I heard the veterinary career gets good pay. That is if I even get a job," he hummed, nibbling at his lip nervously as he watched Toby's knee bounce. He had no idea why he would be as anxious as he was at the moment, but he just was, and he realised he couldn't hold his eyes anywhere near Toby's face before he immediately looked away. He took a deep breath, calm down, Kyle. You're fine. Quite acting weird, there's nothing weird about this and there's nothing weird about him. You're being w-
"You okay, Kyle?" The wizard's thoughts were suddenly interrupted, making him look up at the worried Toby sitting in front of him, now fully turned in his seat. Kyle nodded quickly, chuckling, "yes, yes, it's just... odd..." he mumbled, looking down again as he fidgeted with his hands, "you know, seeing you without your mask and all. You look different," he said,
"You mean like, bad different?" Toby asked, the slightest dash of worry in his voice. Kyle looked back to his face again, shaking his head quickly, afraid he had upset his old friend in some way. Of course, that wasn't what he meant!
"No, no! Good different-" he thought out loud, his face going pink as his eyes darted away, "I-I mean-" he looked back to Toby, his face going redder as he tried to relax, "yeah- good different."
Toby grinned. He still had those buck teeth from before. He had always reminded Kyle of a rabbit. He tugged at the palms of his fingerless gloves, "yeah? I still have my mask somewhere, I'm not sure it'd fit anymore though," he snickered, his expression soft. Kyle felt like if he was standing his knees would be jello. It's just... it's just good to see him so happy is all. He reassured himself, returning the smile.
