Kyle sighed as he wandered about the grocery store, glancing between the shopping list Yo had made him and the shelves. He didn't have anything to do today, so he didn't mind the little chore while Yo was busy with more band practice and signing a few extra paperwork things for general settling into the school. He tapped his foot, humming as he glanced between the list Yo made and the shelves. He could tell apart a few different handwriting styles on the list, bringing a little smile to his face at how connected the band was and how that little family now included him. it felt nice.
As the redhead grabbed some wheat bread (despite the list saying white bread, since this was healthier) his phone buzzed in his pocket. He plopped the bag of bread into his cart before checking to see what the notification was all about. He read it over, feeling a little inspirited once he recognised what it was. He had completely forgotten today was his biweekly therapy appointment. He sure had a lot to talk about, he supposed nothing particularly negative, he'd mainly felt rather contented through these past two weeks. He swiped away the notification and took note of the time, he'd have an hour and a half before he should head for the office, so he decided to just take the groceries home after the appointment since it wasn't that long a wait and he didn't have anything that could melt or maybe taste funny after a bit like milk.
After a rather pleasant shopping trip, Kyle set the groceries in the back of Yo's car. The fact that it was a 1970 Beetle convertible painted a shade of bright red that practically looked hot pink made him feel overwhelmingly like some sort of loony mother that probably embarrassed her children at school by energetically hollering at them that she bought them smoothies. He didn't exactly mind though since at least the windows had been tinted. he decided to whittle away the time by getting a pastry. As he was in mid-step out the door with a slice of banana bread in hand, his phone buzzed again, but this time the reoccurring kind that happens for a call. He got to the car before picking up the unknown number since the caller ID said it was in town, he must know them.
"I got your number from Yo," was the first thing he heard over the phone. He could immediately tell it was Toby, and the way he said it made it clear he was trying to get over the thought of how he may have come off as creepy for just having his number. Kyle snickered as he plopped into the driver's seat, listening to Toby rattle off the event of him asking for the wizard's number as if he had to explain or else he'd get in trouble.
"I don't mind that you asked," Kyle informed gently, smiling into the phone, "you don't need to tell me why or how you got my number. What is it you were calling about though?" he asked, biting into the banana bread as he patiently listened to Toby mumble through his thoughts before finally saying what he had wanted,
"Oh, um, I was just wondering if you wanted to, uh, hang out? Like, just us, and catch up and stuff? I sorta feel like a third wheel right now because we started watching tv after we finished up practice and they're cuddling and stuff," he laughed awkwardly. Kyle blinked in surprise at his offer, smiling a bit before he remembered; therapy.
Kyle set the little paper bag with his snack in it down, checking the time, "I would love to, but could you wait, say, thirty minutes or so?" he asked, receiving an unsure hum of approval from Toby through the phone. "I have a therapist appointment, I'm not avoiding you or anything, I promise," he said jokingly, though he knew he should at least make it clear because of how Toby's mind could make a mountain out of a molehill.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, no, it's fine! That's not what I thought, I just spaced off, sorry," Toby lied. He was actually really worried about every little interaction he had with Kyle. He always had the thought that maybe he was being too bothersome or pushy or weird in the back of his mind. it had been a long time since they'd seen each other after all, and it didn't help the awkwardness with the fact that the last time they saw each other they had given each other a little kiss goodbye before Kyle left to head off to Milkweed.
He wasn't even sure if Kyle remembered that, but he sure did, not only because of just enjoying the memory but also because Chum Chum seemed to never shut up about it whenever Kyle wasn't around. Even if he wanted to forget about his little infatuation with the wizard it would be impossible because of that pothead. God, it was even worse when he was high, he'd just laugh and laugh over how nervous Toby got around Kyle, or even just the mention of their childhood would immediately lead to Chum Chum bringing up how he had a crush on the redhead.
Toby's frustrated thoughts were cut short by Kyle humming distractedly through the phone, "So, thirty minutes?" he confirmed, "oh, and I got the groceries, but just in case; is there any snacks or something you want for me to get on the way home? You know, for, um, hanging out?" he asked, still feeling a little awkward with Toby. Not that he felt awkward about Toby, it was just his own self and social anxiety and whatnot, and he definitely did remember their goodbye kiss. He also felt weird about him just being sort of... normal now. He of course still had his little quirks here and there like his gloves and still wearing his symbol, but Kyle sort of missed the mask and calling him Fanboy. That's just how he knew him, of course, he liked Toby and how he was now just as much. Nostalgia though, right?
After a bit more distracted babbling between the two, Kyle had to get going, so now he was suddenly plunged into the silence of the car. He felt a bit better that he was at least on a direct course to somebody he could safely talk about all of this with. He felt maybe if he just got it all out he'd feel a lot better.
Meanwhile, Toby didn't have a therapist to talk to, he couldn't spill all of it to Yo because heaven knows what she'd tell Kyle, and there was no getting through to Chum Chum about it besides laughing about it, which was something Toby did not feel like doing at the moment.
