"You're joking?!" Annie said. She couldn't believe what she had just heard.
Carson looked back at her and laughed.
"How do you not know? Don't y'all keep in contact?" Carson said I'm his deep southern accent.
Annie ran her finger through her hair and pulled a bit.
"No! They don't ever call me!" Annie lied. They called almost everyday, but she was always too "busy" to answer.
"Well that stinks. Sorry I had to break the news to you." Carson said quietly.
Annie let out a huge sigh and grabbed some pain killers.
"I knew I just should have stayed in LA." Annie said taking the pills.
Carson watched her take the pills carefully.
Annie glared at him.
"What?!" Annie said loudly. Clearly her stress levels were through the roof.
Carson stayed quiet and just drove.
Annie finally realized what he was worried about and she let out a laugh.
"It's ibuprofen, I'm not a drug addict." Annie scoffed.
She noticed Carson let out a relieved sigh.
"Only people who are dumb enough to give up such a life take drugs." Annie said starring out the window.
Carson turned down a long long dirt road. Annie could see the farm from her distance. It was ran down and she could already smell cow manure.
She almost gagged at the smell.
"Ugh, this was such a mistake." Annie said plugging her nose.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a loud pop sound and the car running off the road into a ditch.
Annie screamed and her head banged against the window.
She heard some loud breaking sounds and smelled smoke.
She desperately stood up in the car and tried to open the windows, but the buttons were jammed, along with the car handles.
Carson looked back at Annie and laughed.
"You okay?" Carson asked. Annies eyes were wide.
"You act like nothing happened!!!" She screamed.
"This is the first time it's happened." Carson laughed.
"Then what's that smoke smell?!" Annie screeched.
Carson's eyes rows furrowed and sniffed the air.
He went to the handles and tried to open them, the electrical was shocked.
Annie suddenly saw flames from underneath the taxi hood.
She let out a scream and tried to open the car door.
"I'm going to die!" She screamed. Annie grabbed her purse and hit the window, it wouldn't budge.
"Do ya got anythin hard I can use?" Carson asked.
Annie tacked her brain, she couldn't think of anything.
"If it gets to the gas tank, we're toast." Carson said.
Annie let out a whimper. "This is great." She said.
Carson looked at her feet and smiled.
"Bingo! Hand me one of them heels!!" Carson said.
Annie mouth dropped.
"My Valentino heels! Absolutely not!" She said.
Carson looked at her like she was foolish.
"Would you rather die?" Carson said. He grabbed the heel off her foot and banged the stud against the window.
It shattered. Carson grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the front seat. He climbed out of the window and then motioned for her to do the same.
Annie came to the window and looked at the sharp glass sticking out of the sides. She carefully climbed out, but not careful enough, she felt her forehead hit something sharp, making her hands dig into the glass.
Fell out of the window and landed right in a mud pile.
She looked up at Carson with a angry expression.
"I'm going to sue you." She said.~~~~~~~~~~~
Carson helped Annie up, he was laughing hysterically. Before Annie could turn around to grabbed her belongings out of the trunk, the whole thing burst into flames.
Annie screamed.
"No! All my things!" Annie shouted.
She turned to Carson and stomped the mud.
"All those things were worth more then your house!!!!" She screamed in his face.
Carsons face turned red.
"I'm really sorry Annie." Carson said.
"Why in the world did you have that piece of junk on the road anyways?!" She yelled.
Carson stood quietly.
Annie let out a loud growl sound and started walking towards the farm.
Carson began waking with her.
They walked quietly beside one another towards the farm, it was a good five mile walk, but they had no other choice.
They had gotten a good ways away from the wreckage, when two people on horses pulled up.
Annie squinted to make them out, they looked familiar, but they were to far away to recognize.
As soon as they got closer Annie knew who they were. Some girls she went to school with.
"Well i'll be. Carson why happened?!" Kenzie asked in a southern accent.
The Texas accents made her sick, they reminded her of her growing up. And how long it took with a speech coach to get rid of the accent.
"Well shucks hun, your caked in mud." Jayden said.
Carson coughed loudly at both of them. The mud on Annie face kept them from realizing who she was.
"Annie, do you remember them?" Carson asked.
Annie said and nodded.
"Yes I do." Annie said. Kenzie and Jayden squinted and then their mouths dropped open.
"Annie Leblanc!" They both said at the same time.
Annie took off her other Valentino heel and threw it on the road.
"A lot of good that will do me now." She scowled.
"What are you doing here? I though you were filming another movie this week in Florida?" Jayden asked.
Annie was surprised they knew so much about her, she didn't expect her home town friends and family to even own a cellphone or television.
"Well I took of a few days to come see my family. But I ran into some complications." Annie said glaring at Carson.
"Complications?" Kenzie asked.
Annie sighed rubbed her forehead. The sun was so hot, making her stinking of sweat and mud.
"Can you just give me a ride to my house? Carson can explain on the way." Annie said.
"Sure, hope on." Kenzie said.
Annie walked up to the horse and pulled herself up.
Jayden's mouth hung open. Annie looked at her.
"What?" Annie asked.
"I didn't expect you to still know how to get on a horse.." Jayden laughed.
Annie realized that too. I guess once you learn some things they always stick.
"Can we just get home, I need a shower." Annie said.As they rode on horseback to the farm Carson explained what had happened on the way.
Everyone laughed, except Annie. She didn't find the situation funny at all.
As they rode up to the farm Jayden asked a bunch of questions about Annies life and routines. Annie dodged most of them, and disregarded others.
When they got to the front porch she got off and headed to the house. It was ran down and a brought Florescent yellow.
Annie gagged at all the smells. She knocked on the door and was treated by a girl around the age of eighteen.
"Who are you?" Annie asked.
The girls eyes widened and she hugged Annie.
"Oh my gosh! Annies home!" She screamed.
The girl disappeared into the house and Annie sat in the doorway.
Annie walked in and looked at the clean, but ran down shack.
The girl came back with Annie mother. Annie realized it was her little sister, Hayley...
Her mother's eyes filled with tears and she ran to Annie.
She grabbed her and hugged her tightly.
"Annie?! When did you come home?!" Her mother asked.
Annie pulled away and looked at her mother. She had aged a lot, she had dark circles under her eyes. And wrinkles had started forming all over her face.
"I just got here, I thought I'd surprise you for Easter." Annie said.
"What in heavens name happened to you?" Her mother asked. Annie heard Carson behind getting.
"We had a little accident up the road." He said.
Jayden blurted out the incident that had happened. Annie rolled her eyes at them just walking in.
She found it quite rude.
Hayley had come up to Annie and hugged her. Annie wasn't much for hugging.
They had all began talking amongst themselves. Annie rolled her eyes.
"Umm hello! I'm sitting here caked in mud, and you all are just passing the time of day!" Annie yelled. Everyone stopped talking and looked at her.
"Now point me to the bathroom!" She yelled.
Annies mothers face turned beat red. Annie has embarrassed her.
"I'll show it to you." Hayley said. Annie followed Hayley.
"Dads building a new bathroom with the ranch hands. So we have a make shift bathroom right now." Hayley said. Annie let out a huff.
"Make shift?" Annie asked.
"It's a contraption in the bathroom that dad rigged up. It's a giant tub that you fill with water pretty much." Hayley said.
Annie let out a whimper.
"This is so ridiculous." Annie said.
Hayley stayed quiet and led her to the make shift bathroom.
"Here you go, just got some water from that trough, and fill it. The soap is in that little basket." Hayley said leaving the barn.
Annie sat down on a bale of hay and started crying. She knew coming back home would be a big mistake.
The mud on her face and body had started hardening. She got up and started filling the bucket with water.
She took off her red Chanel dress and washed off the mud. Annie was already sick of being home.
After she got done she grabbed a near towel and dried off. Hayley came back with some clothes and quickly left.
Annie lifted up the pair of overalls and winced.
"Why?!" She cried. She put on the outfit and looked in the mirror.
"I look like Laura Ingall's." She thought.
Annie scoffed and crossed her arms. She bent over and grabbed her dress off the floor when she heard someone come behind her.
"Hey Hayley, your dad said he needs help with one of the horses." The voice called out.
Annie didn't even have to turned around. She knew exactly who it was.
She sighed and turned to look at Asher.
His eyes widened and he stood frozen.
Annie wished she could slap herself for thinking coming home was a good idea.
"Hello Asher." Annie said quietly.
