Ash's POV
"Low kick!" I yell.
Timburr pivots in front of Rattata before using his wooden beam as a baseball bat. He makes solid contact and sends the purple rat Pokemon into the glass wall.
I look across at the normal type leader, Bob. He's wearing an old leather suit, has thinning white hair and a big scruffy beard. I'm dominating this battle but he still looks so calm, especially since it's a one on one format so you only get one Pokemon.
The battlefield is plain with large glass walls around and matching roof over us. Boxed in, nowhere to hide.
Bob's Rattata slowly picks itself up. I'm lucky that I'm going against a Pokemon with physical moves as well, Gold pointed that out last night. So as long as I can keep Timburr away from Rattata's big buck teeth, I should be good.
"Quick attack," Bob commands.
Rattata becomes a purple blur as it races towards Timburr. Best way to beat a Pokemon with speed is to stop it.
"Timburr dig your beam into the ground and stand on top of it."
Timburr flips and holds his position as Rattata approaches. The purple Pokemon runs right through, completely taking the wood from underneath Timburr. I didn't think it was moving that fast.
I watch helplessly as Rattata comes back to hit Timburr at top speed. "Timburr!" I yell as the Pokemon hits the glass hard. I'm going to assume it can't break because it seems like a really bad design idea otherwise.
"Again Rattata," I hear Bob say.
I need another idea...
Timburr is just getting up to his feet and Rattata is almost there. Gotta stop the speed.
"Start a rock throw but hold on to it!"
Timburr doesn't need his beam for this move. He summons the rock and uses it as a shield, a shield Rattata can't get through. The Pokemon hits the rock and bounces off harmlessly.
Timburr lifts the rock and drops it on the dazed Rattata. Battle over.
I look up into the roof where the spectators stand and try to find Serena. Wait she's getting ready for the contest, weird not having here watching.
But today it's my turn to be there when she wins.
Winter's POV
"Are you sure you want to go first?" I ask Gold as we approach the gym building. It's a big glass cube, with the back portion being solid to hold the leader's Pokemon and such. "I've been in here before and you can see how it's done."
"I want to experience it like anyone else would," He smiles. "No advantage for having a good tour guide."
"Whatever," I laugh and follow him inside. "This is going to be funny to watch Togepi." The baby Pokemon giggles in my arms.
