Winter's POV
"Want me to get you lunch?" Nurse Joy walks into the room.
I glance at Gold.
"No it's fine," I get up. "I'll go stretch my legs."
It's been awhile since I've left the room, almost a whole twenty four hours actually. The hospital really isn't that busy, only a few other Nurse Joys walking around.
"Chips and a chocolate bar," I look at the limited vending machine options. "Not bad."
I start with the chocolate bar and head back towards the room.
Through the glass I can see his eyes open.
I leave for one minute.
"Gold!" I run in and stumble onto the chair. He chuckles and I frown. "I suddenly don't feel as bad for you."
"Come on," He chuckles a little bit lighter. His voice isn't full yet.
"You're an idiot y'know," I lock eyes with him. "You should have let go."
"I did," He smiles and I resist smacking him. "Just a little too late."
"A little," I roll my eyes.
"How bad is it?"
"You're perfectly healthy, for the most part. I think you slept for over a day on purpose."
"Oh sure I did," He laughs and I shake my head.
"But in all seriousness," I feel him grab my hand. "Thanks for staying with me, it looks like you didn't sleep much."
I frown at him and shake away his hand. "You're not supposed to tell a girl that."
His eyes grow in worry.
"But you can make it up to me," I wink.
"Uh how exactly?" He asks, the worried expression still on his face.
"I don't know yet," I shrug with a smile. "You'll have to wait until we get out of here."
"When will that be?" I notice him bend his legs back and forth.
"Not for awhile," I glance at the clock. "You need to rest."
"Ugh, perfectly healthy you said," He leans back into the pillow and closes his eyes. "You should at least get out of here. Go live freely for the both of us."
"Drama queen," I mutter and he rolls over towards me with an unimpressed look. "You and I can wait a few more hours."
"Wait Seel!" He bursts with his navy eyes fully open.
I tilt my head.
"Is he okay?"
"Umm," I try to remember. "I didn't see any Pokémon fall with you."
He rolls back over and his voice drops. "I couldn't save one Pokémon."
"But you gave it basically everything you had," I try to smile at him but he doesn't look.
"Yea," He mumbles just loud enough for me to hear.
We spend all afternoon in the same spot, a little bit of light talk but that Seel really has him down. I notice the sun setting, casting an orange glow on the water.
"I'll be right back," I get up and find Nurse Joy.
"Hey Winter," She sets down a stack of folders.
"Hey," I smile. "Do you think Gold is ready to leave? I'll make sure he rests and everything."
"He's doing well," The nurse looks in his direction. "I think that'd be fine."
