Dylan's POV

Right, when I heard those words, not even caring that I was wearing shoes I dove straight into the pool. I opened my eyes searching for her. I see her at the bottom and immediately swim towards her and pull her up by the waist. Daren helps me take her out and lays her by the pool. I immediately see she's not breathing and start panicking. "She's not breathing!!" I yell. Think Dylan think. I place my hands down on her chest and start chest compressions. "Dylan what are you doing!?" I hear Daren ask worriedly. "I had a summer job as a lifeguard," I say and he nods rapidly. I can here Jazmin yelling at the very drunk Justin who seemed to have recovered his senses and was feeling guilty. Suddenly Samantha starts gasping for air and rolls on her side, coughing water. "Oh my gosh, Sam!! Are you okay!?" Daren asks and swoops her up like a child. "I'm fine." She says, her voice hoarse. "I'm taking you home." He says and starts to run off with her. As they're going through the door Samantha looks back at me and gives me a small smile. "Holy shit Dylan that was awesome," Jared says and I scowl at him. "I hope she's okay," I say quietly and Jared puts an arm around me. "She'll be fine, now let's go dry you off." He says and I shake my head. "I'm gonna go home," I say and he nods. "Okay let's go home." He says. "Jar you don't have to go, I want you to have fun," I say and he shakes his head. "Nope I insist, now let's go watch CSI Miami." He says excitedly and I snort. "Alright let's go," I say and we walk to his car. "Ooh, I'm gonna ask my mom if I can sleepover." He says and grabs his phone. "Hey mom, yes mom I'm fine. I just wanted to ask if I can sleepover at Dylan's tonight." He turns to me. "She said hi." I smile and grab the phone. "Hi Mrs. Danport," I say into the phone. "Hi Dylan, is your mom okay with Jared staying over?" She asks in a motherly tone. "Yep," I say. "Okay, then he can stay, bye Dylan." She says. "Byee," I say and hang up. "Your mom loves me." I brag and Jared rolls his eyes. "She treats you better than me, it's not fair." He pouts. "It because I'm the favorite," I say, and he grunts. "Whatever. Let's go watch CSI Miami." He says and we enter his car.

"Noooo Speedle you can't die on me," Jared yells while I munch on popcorn. "Gosh Dylan, have you no emotions? Speedle just died." Jared says looking at me like I'm crazy. "Shut up," I say, and throw popcorn at his head. "How dare you." He gasps while I smirk at him. He grabs a fist full of popcorn and throws it at me. I gasp and throw more. And that's how a full-on popcorn war started.

"Dylan Reece Jackson how many times have I told you. No popcorn wars!!" My mom shouts at me while Jared is behind her making faces at me. Now that my mom says my name out loud I think my parents might have wanted a boy. "Are you even paying attention to what I'm saying?!" I quickly snap out of it and rapidly nod my head. "Good now go clean up your mess." She says and storms off. "Why didn't she say something to you," I whine to Jared. "I might not be the favorite in my house but Im definitely the favorite in this house." He says and jumps onto my bed. "Shut up and help me pick up the popcorn," I say and he raises his hands in surrender. "Okay okay." He says and starts picking up popcorn. I feel a buzz in my pocket and pull out my phone. It was a message from Josh.

Joshy:
Dude, I heard what happened, someone caught it on video.

Along with his text is a link. I click on it and a video of me jumping into the pool and saving Samantha pops up. I groan and Jared walks over to me. "What is it." He asks and I shove my phone in his hands and flop onto my bed. "Someone caught it on camera? Awesome! I'm gonna send it to myself." He says and messes with my phone before handing it back to me. "Samantha is the most popular girl at school Dyl. You know everyone's gonna see that video." He says and flops down next to me. "Yeah, I know." I groan and he laughs. "Dyl this is a good thing. One, people will think of you as some sort of hero. Two, ladies find it hot when you save someone." He says grinning and I scowl at him. "Jar I hate attention," I say. "I know I know, but think of it like this. You'll have the ladies flocking you and girls are weirdly possessive over anyone who does something for them. So Samantha will want to keep you close." He says and I raise an eyebrow. "Since when do you know anything about girls," I ask and he scoffs. "I'm going to ignore that comment because you are in crisis right now." He says and continues. "Look Dyl the more time you spend with her, the more you will find out and there's bound to be something about her that's a turnoff." He says pointedly. I stare at him in silence before I slowly grab a pillow and hit him over the head. "Jared, I've been in love with her for four years, you think I don't know she's not perfect? I love everything about her even her little quirks and imperfections." I declare and he smiles. "Okayyy." He says and I roll my eyes. "I'm getting tired." He says yawning. "Yeah me too," I say and stand up to stretch. "Your toothbrush is in the cabinet," I say and he nods. Since Jared spent so much time here we got him a toothbrush so he won't have to worry about forgetting his from home. He walks to the bathroom and I flop back into the bed. I hope she's okay. Man, what if I never do get over Samantha? I know she loves Daren and honestly who wouldn't? "Don't think too much, you might hurt yourself," Jared says from the bathroom doorway, mouth filled with foam. "Eww Jar that's gross," I whine and he pouts. "Seriously though are you still thinking about her?" He asks after finishing. "Yeah, I just can't help it," I say and he shakes his head. "Go brush your teeth so we can get to sleep and you can rest your mind." I do as he says and walk back into the room and see him already in pajamas. "Where did you even get those?" I ask and he shrugs. "I put them in the back of your closet." He says and I grab some pajamas and start changing. "Whoa, Dyl look I know I'm good looking but I don't want to be an experiment." He jokes. We've changed in front of each other countless times since we've basically known each other since birth. "Not like I'd want your baby shrimp anyways," I say and he gasps. "Lies, I've measured it and it's definitely a full-grown shrimp." He says and we both burst out laughing. "Whatever," I say and we both tuck into bed after shutting off the lights. "Good night Jare Bear."
"Good night Dyl Pickle."
