Dylan's POV
"Dylan wake up!!" I hear my mom's voice say. I groan and get out of bed. "Morning!!" I yell. "Morning." I hear my mom and Ryans voice yell back. I take a quick shower then brush my teeth and change. I quickly brush my hair and rush down the hallway and into the kitchen. "Hey mom," I say and give her a kiss on the cheek. "Hey Dyl. Is Jared gonna join us for breakfast?" She asks and I sit down. "Let me ask." I pull out my phone to text him when there's a knock on the door. "I'll get it." I hear Ryan say. "It's Jared!" I hear Ryan says and walks into the kitchen with Jared. "Hey Jar," I say. "Hey Dyl. Hey Julia." He says to me and my mom. "Hey Jared, you want some cereal?" She asks him, already getting a bowl out. "Yes please." He says and my mom hands him the bowl. She brings us Cocoa Pebbles and we all sit down to eat.
"Okay, byee mom." Ryan and I yell walking out the door. "Bye Julia," Jared says and we close the door. "Ryan you want a ride or are you taking your car?" Jared asks. "I'll just take my car, Dyl you have work after school right?" He asks and I nod. "Do I need to pick you up?"
"No, I'm good, I'll just skate there," I say. "Are you sure it's supposed to rain today." He says and I nod. "The weather report is hardly ever right. I'll be fine." I say and he nods. "Okay, see you guys later." He says and heads off. We both get in Jared's and I shake my head. "I'm so proud of him, I started working last year and he started his sophomore year," I say and Jared nods. "Yeah, he's a smart kid." He says and starts his car. "Dyl I've always wanted to know something." He says and I nod. "Why does Ryan have a car and you don't? Look I don't mind giving you a ride but I've always wondered." He says and I shrug. "Well I've never really liked cars and it's easier to freeload off of you," I say teasingly. "Wow, I feel very loved." He says and I laugh."Okay see you after class," I say and speed into my class before the bell rings. I sit down in my seat and look around bored. Ughh I hate Financial Math. "Okay class I have to leave early today so I have a worksheet for you and if you finish early then you can do what you want." Mrs. Carson says and hands out the worksheet. I quickly finish the questions and ask if I can go to the library, but before she can answer there's a knock at the door. "Come in." Mrs. Carson says and Coach walks in. "Hi Mrs.Carson, we need Dylan in the office," He says politely and Mrs. Carson nods. "Of course. Bye Dylan." She says and I almost groan out loud. I follow Coach to the office and walk in to see Warren and Jared sitting there. Oh, no is this about me hitting Warren with the ball? I take a seat beside Jared and look at Warren, who for the first time is giving me a not evil smile. "Jar what's going on?" I whisper to him and he smiles but says nothing. "Okay now that everyone is here, let's get down to business," Mrs. Woods, the principal, says. "Okay, so today I was approached about something that happened after football practice." Mrs. Woods says looking at me and I gulp. "Let me get straight to the point, Coach wants you to be on the team." Mrs. Woods says. "Me?" I ask stupidly, pointing at myself. "Yes, Dylan, you." She says letting out a laugh. "Why?"
"Well, your friend here said you've been playing football since you were little and we need another player since Ron quit." The coach explains. I look over at Jared who looks scared as I glare at him. "And Warren told me that you guys were messing around after practice and you caught and threw the ball easily." The coach continues and I send a glare to Warren who smirks. "I'm sorry Coach, but I can't," I say and he frowns slightly. "Come on kid, it'll be fun and it looks good on a college application." He says trying to sell it. "I don't know Coach," I say unsure. "How about you just give it some thought. If you say no then I promise to leave you alone. Deal?" He says sticking his hand out and looking hopeful. Man, he must be really desperate if he came to me. I take his hand and shake it. "Deal," I say and he grins. "Okay now that it's all settled, everyone go back to class." Mrs. Woods says dismissing us. We all walk out and Warren and the coach walk down the hallway. Once they're out of earshot I shove Jared. "What the hell Jar?!?" I quietly yell. "Oww." He says rubbing his shoulder. "Well I know you've been really bored with life lately and I thought you might want to try something new." He says defending himself. "You couldn't have signed me up for chess club or something? It had to be football?!?" I yell and he looks down guiltily. "I'm sorry Dyl. It's just that...soon we'll go off to college and I thought if you joined football we could spend more time together." He says and I sigh. "Jar I know you have good intentions, but seriously football?" I ask and he smiles. "Don't worry you're a natural plus I'm sure John won't mind changing your shift so that you won't miss practice." He says excitedly. "Jesus Jar, the things I do do you," I say shaking my head. "You know you love me." He says cockily. "That I do," I admit and we both go our separate ways.
