Chapter IV

Strange. Ako yung ikakasal pero I don't know any of the details about my very own wedding. Kapag tumatawag ang mommy ni James sa bahay, it's either si Mommy or si Ate Florence ang kinakausap. James calls me occasionally. Pero usually para lang kumustahin ako. Kung kumain na daw ba ako. Kung kumusta ang tulog ko. But we never talk about the wedding.

OP ... Out of Place ... sa sarili kong wedding. Well, I know na Marriage for Convenience lang naman eto. Pero, well at least, I want to have some say on some details. I am the bride for god’s sake!

Sa gitna ng pagsi-senti ko, biglang tumunog an gang phone ko. It was James. "What?" I answered it.

"Is that how you answer your calls? Wala man lang bang -- 'Hello, good morning, honey' dyan?"

"Why?" I answered nonchalantly. I’m in no mood to argue.

He laughed, "I'm on my way to fetch you. Get dressed. We'll look for a gown. And we might visit the venue."

"Okay ! See you later." Finally, at least I get to pick my own gown.

"I want a simple gown" I blurted out. He was parking in front of a small boutique.

"I know," he shrugged, “I know, Chekay.” He even gave me a wink. Whatever that means!

I tried on three dresses before I finally found the perfect gown. I smiled victoriously as I looked at myself in the mirror. Nasa waiting area si James. I went out to show him the dress I've chosen.

I wanted to laugh at James’ reaction. His eyes and his mouth were wide open. I never thought me wearing a simple wedding gown would have that certain effect on my bestfriend.

“So, do you think I should buy this dress,” I said teasingly.

“Yah … sure,” he stammered. He was acting so weird.

On our way to the hotel, he suddenly blurted, "Si Jeff pala ang bestman ko."

Now it was my turn to have wide eyes, "Jeff? As in Jeffrey Ferrer?” I almost screamed.

"Oh, nagtwitwinkle ang eyes mo. Yes, my bestman is your all-time crush." He sounded annoyed. I wonder why.

Yes! Jeffrey was my all-time crush back in high school. I heard he also migrated here a few months after James did. But I never knew they became friends. James owes me lots of stories.

"We went to the same college. We kinda became good friends after." James said. It was as if he really read my mind.

“How does he look now? Still dashingly handsome?” I teased. Just thinking of my highschool crush made me shiver.

"Mas gwapo na ako sa kanya ngayon," he smirked. He sounded pissed. I never knew James would be that easy to annoy.

He grabbed my hand as we entered the hotel where we're going to get married. The word spectacular was an understatement. The hall was really grand! "I thought the hotel was small and simple.”

"For my mom, this is small and simple.” He shrugged.

“Wow,” that was all I coud say.

"Well, do you like it?" he asked.

“Yah, I like it," I managed to say. My eyes twinkling with delight. He just smiled. A wide one. He's cute when he smiles.
