I placed the cup back on the table without drinking any. The woman looked and me and smiled slyly. I noticed that Ryan had gone abnormally still and was staring at me, dazed.  “Impressive,” she said and cleared away the drinks. “What’s your name, young one?”  The woman asked.
“Karina McLean,” I coughed still slightly alarmed by this startlingly beautiful woman.  She nodded and stood up. She was wearing a bright white long dress, though it didn’t exactly look like a wedding dress.
“My name is Lori,” She smiled gracefully and did a small curtsy. “I am the queen of this realm I am also an oracle. Ryan is a changeling,” Lori gestured to Ryan “ I guess that’s what you are,”  Lori looked deep into my eyes, and I shifted uncomfortably under her stare. She seemed nice, but this whole thing was starting to get weird.
“Uhm…,” I mumbled “I’m pretty sure I’m human,” I said holding my arms out as if they were proof. She smiled sadly at the ground, and I thought I heard her sigh. “What?” I asked slightly more aggressive than I had intended.
“I can sense your power, Karina,” She looked at me inquisitively. Once again I shifted under her stare and glanced at Ryan, but he took no notice. “You are either a changeling or something that in my 497 of living haven’t heard of.” She stated. I stared open mouthed. Her words had shocked me as they would anyone. It is not a common thing to hear a woman who only looks like she is in her thirties say that she has lived nearly 500 years. I didn’t know what to say. I barely knew what to think. I looked to Ryan for help but if he did notice this time he had no intention of showing so. Lori took my arm and led me through the building. She told me lots about her love life, which was horribly gruesome and boring. Ryan followed behind like a lost puppy, and I began to feel lost.
“If I am what you say I am then what does that make my parents?” I asked tears pricking my eyes. Lori paused as if she had remembered something, and she turned to a filing cabinet on her right. “What are you?” I began to ask. Lori pulled out a folder with my name on it and placed it on the table. She opened it up and sifted through the documents mumbling to herself. She made a high-pitched sort of squeak and handed me some paper.  On it, it reads;

1997 December 15th
I looked down on the housed I left her in and closed my eyes. I hope she will be okay. The people I made love her are good people, and I hope one day she will understand. I leave no indication of whom or what I am. Only to hope she will find out for herself. Maybe one day she will read this and realise why I had to leave her. My dear, Karina I am so sorry for what I had to do and I want you to know you are a very important part in Faerie history. I can’t tell you much more as my time quickly is passing, but I know someone who can. You need to head to America through the faerie passageways. Ask the queen if she will organise you a team to travel. If not then you will need to find another way. I truly love you please never forget.
~Your Mother
My throat began to burn, and tears stung my eyes. I felt Ryan’s hand on my shoulder, and I quivered quietly. I had no idea who I was anymore and being here only made it worse. I couldn’t hold back my tears and sobbed into Ryan’s chest. He seemed a little shocked but left me anyway. I wasn’t even sure why I was crying. Finally, my life was getting exciting. Though I guess finding out no one knows who you are or who you mother is. I wiped my face and Ryan brushed the hair out of my eyes. I turned to face Lori. I was confident and ready to do what I could for some adventure in my life.
