“Really, ‘I’d do anything for you,’” Gabriel laughed, “How corny can you get?”
Michael blushed, “Your just jealous that she didn’t call you instead.” He retorted
Gabriel stopped laughing, and sneered in his twin’s direction. Their shared attic room was dark and a little drafty so the wind softly ruffled the pages of a book Michael left on the counter, but the growing silence made the soft ruffle encompass the entire room. The tension could have been cut by a knife and studied by scientist it was so thick.
Gabriel broke the silence by saying “Of course I’m jealous. You’re the one getting late night calls while I have gotten any action since… Since Jake” Gabriel choked up a little. The name held too much weight to it. His heart felt like a hundred pound weight in his chest. Gabriel was still feeling the burn of his brake up with Jacob. Maybe it was because he knew he would now have to see him as another gang member instead of a friend. Gabriel had never felt so hurt after a break up no matter how brutal.
“So I guess you and him still aren’t talking?” Michael asked
“Nope, not even a side-ways glance. I’ve tried apologizing almost 20 times now, but he won’t listen. Can you try talking to him, he listens to you. They all listen to you.”
“Ok. Sure, but until all this with the school and house arrest is over.”
“Yeah I had almost forgotten. It’s easy to forget a big, black, 2-pound, ankle bracelet attached to you.”
Gabriel slid out of bed and quickly padded over to his brother’s bed, almost jumping on top of him
“Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You are the best Mickey!” Gabriel whispered- screamed in Michael’s ear while squeezing the breath out of him. He let up a little when Michael started gasping for air. “Sorry, guess I didn’t know my own strength. Can I stay in your bed for the rest of the night?” he asked, but settled in not waiting for an answer.
“So what are you gonna do about Carla? She probably knows already might as well just spill.” Gabriel asked
“Oh my god, Gabe, do you ever stop talking” Michael said frustrated by his brother’s never ending waterfall of words, “Can you just go one day without saying a single word." Michael wasn’t really mad at his brother he was just upset because he had been asking himself that same question for months, and still didn’t have an answer.
The best case scenario would be that he confesses and she feels that same way then they get to go to school Ms. Scourge’s school and live happily ever, or they end up like Gabe and Jacob and split the gang up even further.
Michael heaved a sigh and answered Gabriel’s question. “I don’t know Gabe, I do not know.”
