harry
-the next day
"Hey, Gin?" Harry asked to get Ginny's attention.
"Yes, Harry?" she asked while sitting on the couch next to him.
"I've thought about it, and I am going to go back to Hogwarts," he told her.
"Really? That's excellent, and I'm so happy you'll be there with me!" She hugged him, but when he couldn't see her face, Ginny's smile disappeared. After the hug, she went to the kitchen to make some tea for Harry and herself.
"I was thinking about it since we got the letters, and I realized that it will be better for me mentally and physically to go. I'll have people to surround myself with, Ron and Hermione will be there, and I could play Quidditch instead of just lying around all day. It will also give me some time to think about what I want to do," he explained.
Ginny paused what she was doing and looked at Harry. "You don't want to be an Auror?"
Harry hadn't realized that he didn't tell her that he changed his mind. He realized that he didn't tell anyone. "Oh, I meant to tell you that I'd rather not be an Auror. I spent most of my life fighting against a dark wizard, and I don't want to spend the rest of my life fighting other ones. I don't know exactly what I want to do, but I know that it won't involve any more people trying to kill me," he humored.
"I understand, Harry. It would be hard on anyone who fought in the war, especially you," she said while giving him his tea.
Harry took a sip and savored the taste for a moment before speaking. "Exactly! Thank you for understanding. And thank you for helping me and being by my side even after the war. I know I've been a burden and I just want to tell you that I am so grateful for you. I really do love you, Ginny. I love you so so much. "
"Harry, It's the least I could do. You have been through so much, and if there were anyone that I would help, it would be you. You don't have to keep thanking me. I really do love you too, Harry," Ginny told him, but she felt a little guilty. She really did love him, but just not in that way. Ginny was looking forward to Hogwarts because Harry wouldn't be by her side the whole time, but now that he wants to go, plans have changed.
She cared so much for Harry, just not romantically. Ginny knew that she would have to break it off with him eventually, but definitely not right now. She would never kick someone when they're down. Ginny knew that Harry would need someone after the war, and she would be that person. She had this false image of Harry for the longest time, but when they started dating she realized that she didn't want to spend the rest of her life with him. Now that Harry was going to Hogwarts, she knew that she would have to break up with him there. Once Harry gets comfortable at Hogwarts, then I'll do it, she thought to herself.
"Ginny?" Harry broke her train of thought.
"Harry?" she responded.
"Out of everyone in the world, I'm happy that I'm here with you," he said, kissing her on the lips.
"Me too, Harry. Me too."
