TWO;
"...jun-hyung! HYEONGJUN-HYUNG!" hyeongjun shook himself awake as he anxiously tightened his grip on his phone before it could fall out of his grasp. he groaned exhaustedly.
"...sorry seongmini. i'm here. i'm almost at school, i'll see you soon, okay?" hyeongjun responded wearily.
today was most certainly not his day. hyeongjun had somehow managed to sleep through his alarm, and was thankfully only running a few minutes (read: hyeongjun's roomate, allen, was kind enough to wake him up when he saw that the younger was still dead asleep in his bed).
he had regretfully stayed up the whole night finishing his homework, and admittedly reading the odd book with the worn brown cover. he couldn't help it. it was as if the story had pulled him in, and with each chapter leaving him at cliff hanger after cliff hanger, hyeongjun found himself unable to put the book down.
the story revolved around the main character, a young high school boy, full of talent and determination to become an idol. hyeongjun couldn't help but feel his heart tug against his chest as he came across that part, as he himself could relate to the crave to be in the spotlight and to hear the cheers of the crowd in front of you, he was majoring in dance after all. anyways, it followed the main protagonist as he faced the challenges of high school, while pushing for his idol life in between. rather quickly, the protagonist was signed to a company, but that was only the start of the story. he soon became extremely well-known by all of his peers at school, and became quite the popular kid. however, with all the love and praise the main protagonist recieved, there was one boy who couldn't stand the main protagonist. he was quickly revealed to be the villain, who had been chasing the same dream as the main protagonist, and was purely jealous. the story followed the two, as the villain continued to quietly scheme behind the main protagonists back, as the main protagonist floated through his idol life. soon enough, a new character was introduced, the heroine. she was a new transfer student who, cliche-ly enough, quickly snatched the main characters heart with her goddess-like visuals and absolutely angelic-like vocals.
the last few chapters of the book told of the villain's final masterplan, as he had gotten in contact with a few of the staff members that were involved in the main protagonist's biggest concert yet that would also feature a sweet duet between the main character and the heroine, and the villain had managed to sabotaged the concert. the lights went out, the speakers all gave out, it was a nightmare for even an outside reader, like hyeongjun. performing in front of any sizable audience is already nerve-wracking enough, with how much you've practiced for the one, short, moment to be on the stage, and for everything to go wrong... hyeongjun truly hoped that he'd never have to experience a moment like that ever in his life.
however, the main character was suprisingly very prepared, as he continued to sing with no mics, no background music, just his purely exquisite voice. this evokes an immediate response from the audience, as they all turned on the flashlights on their phone as they all sang along with the main protagonist and the heroine. the concert was able to successfully end on a very sentimental note. the main character was able to make many trust-worthy friends throughout his journey, and they were able to catch the villain and his lackies, as they exposed them through the school announcements this next day. the villain was the center of everyone's hatred, he was bullied and harassed to the point that he was forced to move out of town, never to bother anyone ever again. and the main character and the heroine were able to live happily-ever after.
for the build up that the story had, hyeongjun was admittedly a little dissapointed with the ending, but he was content with the positive note the story finished with.
however, it was not a good-enough tale for hyeongjun to decide that it was worth skipping his valueable hours of sleep for.
hyeongjun had just made it to the crosswalk, the outline of his school barely visable past the fog in the distance. his pupils dragged down to his watch, 2 minutes. he had two minutes to make it across the street, unload his bag, and get to his class on time. hyeongjun wanted to cry at the levels of stress rapidly picking up inside him.
maybe if the fog hadn't been as thick and depressing as it had been today, if his mind hadn't been a whirlwind of stress and anxiety, if he could've just focused on the road in front of him, if he had just slept last night instead of reading the book, if he had never picked the book up in the first place, let his curiously get the better of him...
maybe he would've heard the shouting to get out of the road or maybe, just maybe he could've the car blaring it's horn at him.
but it had all happened so fast, and it was too late.
the car knocked itself into hyeongjun's frail, utterly exhausted and confused frame,
effectively knocking him unconcious.
effectively killing the boy.
