Legolas was woken by bright sunlight hitting his face. He groggily sat up, rubbing at his eyes with his (still a bit childish) hands. He squinted towards the window to see Calair, his caretaker, back lit by the sunlight coming in through the previously-closed shades that were now thrown wide-open, lighting everything in the room. Including the sleeping elfling.

That was how Legolas was woken most every morning. Calair was what someone may call a 'morning person'. Legolas, however hard he tried, simply could not see the joy in waking up to the extent the adviser did. In fact, there was probably no one else in all of the kingdom who enjoyed the morning such as he!

"Good morning my Prince!" Calair crooned as he bustled over to the wardrobe. "Is it not a beautiful day?"

Legolas sat up and kicked the blankets off. "Yes," He tried to respond, but was interrupted by a huge bout of yawning, so the words came out sounding more like an affirmative sound than actual speech.

After their morning routine--in which there was the usual amount of arguing and the constant request of "Hold still!" as Caliar braided Legolas's hair--the Prince was ready to start the day. And a very special day it was--today was the Day of Creation!

Legolas burst into Thranduil's study with a grin on his face and a present in his hands. He expectantly looked around, expecting his father to be in there. But Thranduil was not.

Now Legolas was worried. His father always was in his study in the morning! Where else would he be?

There was a knock on the still-open door behind Legolas. He turned to see Caliar standing there, an sympathetic smile on his face. "I apologize Legolas," He started. "I forgot to tell you: King Thranduil left yesterday evening. His presence was urgently requested at one of the outlying towns on the south border. He is not expected to return until tomorrow."

Legolas was stunned. His father was not here? But... they always spent today together. Legolas hardly got to see him otherwise, as he was always so busy running the kingdom. What would he do now?

Caliar took pity on the young elf and knelt down, hugging the child. "It is alright Legolas," He said softly. "We will have fun today anyway, right?"

Legolas did not answer.
