"Hello miss Keystone, my name is Mrs Grayson."
I wasn't sure how to respond. She knew my name, and pretty much everything about me. It is all in my file, being a ward of the state there isn't much privacy.
"Would you please take a seat?"
"Yes. Of course."
"Miss Keystone I regr..."
"Please, call me Alex"
"Ah, yes. Okay. Alex...I regret to inform you that we have found your biological Father, he past away last march."
She paused as if waiting for me to have a break down. She must have to give this news often to know the appropriate time to pause and how long to wait to see if there would be any crying. I never knew my biological father, to me he was just a nice thought. My facial expression must not have changed because it was less than a minute before she began to speak.
"We have not had any luck in locating your biological mother. However, the paper work that she will need to sign and agree to in order for you to meet with her is being prepared."
"Why? Isn't it pointless? What if she os dead or you never find her. then it will just have been a waste of time."
"This will speed up the process for when we do locate her. With that said, we will not be able to complete the paper work until we know what the terms of your adoption were."
"Is there anything I can do?"
I had barely finished speaking when Mrs Grayson cut in. It was as if she knew it was coming. I guess it's a normal reaction.
"No." She spoke with a certain harshness that hadn't been present through out the meeting. I assumed it was intended to show how serious it was that i not interfere.
I left soon after, not that i had anywhere to go. I wasn't going to go back to school, and going to my foster home was out of the question. I decided to show up at work, maybe they would have an extra shift i could pick up.
