Liam's hair was still wet from the shower when he flopped onto his bed and buried his face in his pillow. The game against Devenford Prep could not have gone any worse. Groaning, Liam turned his head to the side and reached for his phone, unlocking it with his fingerprint and seeing a notification from Mason on Instagram. Opening the app, he swiped left and opened the message. It was a video of him talking to Brett that afternoon. Sitting up on his bed, Liam felt himself getting angrier and angrier as he watched the video. Under the video was a message from Mason.

It was posted to the Beacon Hills High Twitter gossip page. Thought you should know.

Liam groaned again and fell backwards, narrowly missing hitting his head on his headboard as he did so. His phone lay by his side in his hand, held loosely as he closed his eyes and pretended he didn't exist for a few seconds. Opening his eyes, he held his phone above his face, a dangerous game, and texted Mason a reply before going back to the home page and hitting the search button.

Brett Talbot

The search came up with Brett's page but before Liam could click on it, his mom was calling him for dinner and he turned his phone off, tossing it onto his bed as he got up and walked downstairs. After dinner, he sat at his desk and finished all his homework, writing the last paragraph to his history essay at one in the morning. He crawled into his bed and face planted again, exhausted once more. Just like before, he turned his face to the side so he could breathe and he grabbed his phone, unlocking it. The Instagram page greeted him and he rolled onto his back, clicking on Brett's page. The boy's most recent picture was posted around 3:30 and he was on the bus with his team, on their way to Beacon Hills. Liam clenched his jaw and scrolled down, looking at the other pictures. Most were of Brett himself or his sister, Lori, but there were a few about lacrosse and bus rides to games. It was around two a.m. that Liam realized he was high key stalking Brett's page. He was about to close out of the app and just go to sleep when a picture caught his eye. Clicking on it, it expanded and Liam found himself smiling as he looked at it. The photo was from two years ago and it was taken in the lunchroom at Devenford Prep. Brett wasn't in the picture, he had been the one to take it, but Liam was stood slightly hunched over, his face turned as Mason threw spaghetti at him. There was evidence of a laugh in his expression and a plate full of mashed potatoes in his hand. There were a few other boys Liam remembered from the lacrosse team in the background throwing food at each other too but Brett had focused his camera on Liam and Mason. He tried to zoom in on the picture, one of the kids in the back looking familiar, but his thumb slipped and a transparent heart popped up in the middle of the photo. Liam's eyes widened as he realized what he had just done. There was no way he could unlike it now, Brett would still get the notification. He rolled over and buried his face in his pillow, groaning loudly and on the verge of screaming. Quickly closing out of the page even though the damage was already done, Liam called it a night and went to bed instead of dealing with his issues.
