In The Basement

Janie's POV:

"Janie, honey will you go down to the freezer and get the bag of fries?" My mom asked.

"Sure" I got up off my lazy butt and walked over to the basement door. I couldn't remember the last time I went down there. I opened the door and got halfway down the stars before I realized something was wrong.

"Wait! Janie! I forgot we don't need them." My mom called out. That was weird. Why did she all of a sudden not need them? Did she remember she was dieting? Well I wanted fries so I was gonna get them. "Janie! Come back up here right now!" My mom sounded kind of... worried. Why?

"Coming!" I lied. I kept walking down the stairs but when I got to the bottom I realized I didn't remember where the freezer was. I decided to just walk around until I saw it. I turned to my right and started walking. I didn't get very far until I stopped dead in my tracks.

There were five sleeping bags and pillows set up in a line. Then I gasped. Crowded around an electric heater were five boys.

Questions were swirling around in my head. Why were there five guys in my basement? How long had they been there? How did they get there?

"What the hell is going on?" I whispered, afraid to talk to loudly. The boys turned to face me and what little color they had in their face drained. They looked terrible. Worse than terrible. They looks like they hadn't slept or eaten well for days. Maybe I was dreaming. This couldn't be real life. I closed my eyes and pinched myself. Nope, still here. Shit.

"I'm not going to hurt you. Who put you here?" I asked.

"That woman. She put us in here." The blonde one was crying. He had an Irish accent. They looked so fragile.

"Do you mean my mom? Are you sure?" I didn't think my mom would do something like this.

"The man helped. He put us down her and she's been giving us just enough supplies to survive" The curly haired one was shaking. They all were shaking.

"You mean to tell me that my parents kidnapped five guys and kept them in my basement? That's crazy! They're so nice." I was shocked. But why would these guys lie to me? "But I believe you. How long have you been in here?"

"About a year" One of the boys said.

"A year? That's insane! You've been down here for a year?" I raised my voice. Immediately I realized a made a mistake. "I need to get you out of here. Do you want me to call the police?" I whispered. They nodded. I dialed 911 and instantly someone picked up.

"911 what is your emergency?"

"My parents kidnapped five males and have been keeping them in my basement for a year. They are going to come looking for me any second now."

"Okay can I have your address?" I gave her my address. "Okay there are people on their way."

"Thank you." I hung up. Suddenly, I heard my parents rushing down the stairs. "Shit! The police better hurry!"

"Janie I told you to come back upstairs." My mom was standing at the bottom of the stairs with a steak knife in her hand. Her eyes were shooting daggers into mine but I stood tall. "Now I have to hurt you because you've seen too much. That hurts me babe but I need to do this." Was this the same mom that raised me? It didn't sound anything like the Sunday brunch making, cuddling, mom I knew.

"Mom? Why would you do something like this?" I asked. I started backing away from her.

"I-" my mom was cut off my my dad coming down the stairs.

"Judy, don't tell her anything." My dad urged my mom. What was going on? My dad pulled out a gun. "Janie you know I don't want to do this but I have to."

"Dad? Mom? What happened to you? Please just tell me why you did this? Maybe if its legitimate I will accept the fact that you kidnapped five guys!" I was scarred for my life! My dad held the gun up, aiming at my heart. Just as he moved his hand to pull the trigger, the basement door flees open and six police officers flew down the stairs and had my parents in handcuffs within seconds.

"You are under arrest for the kidnapping of five males and attempted murder."
