3 weeks had passed. 3 weeks since she first had that strange nightmare. Since then, Ahsoka hadn't had a single bad dream. Until today. It was much worse.
She gasped awake in the middle of the night, this time having thrown herself up so violently she ended up falling off of her bed. In more positive circumstances, she would have laughed it off and went straight back to sleep, but she was still in complete shock from the nightmare.
Almost immediately, she could hear shuffling come from Anakin's own room. Then, she heard her door slide open just as she sat herself up.
"Snips? Are you okay?" Anakin asked as he spotted his apprentice on the floor. He walked over to her, a brow raising. "Why are you on the floor?"
Ahsoka rubbed the tiredness from her eyes and blinked slowly up at her master. "'m fine..fell off the bed."
A small smirk appeared on Anakin's face. It disappeared quite quickly though. "Are you sure you're okay? What happened?"
As Ahsoka started to become more aware of her surroundings, she noticed that Anakin was still in his nightclothes. "I'm sure. No worries. I had a dream, is all."
Anakin stretched his hand toward her and she accepted it, allowing him to pull her back onto her feet.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
Ahsoka shrugged. "Maybe another time. It wasn't really that bad, honestly."
That was far from the truth.
"Alright, then.." Anakin kept a hand on her shoulder. He could sense that she wasn't telling the truth, but decided to let it be.
Ahsoka met his gaze and instinctively flinched. All she could see were the piercing yellow eyes replacing his blue ones. It scared her. But she wasn't willing to just come out and tell him, because for all she knew it could just be a bad nightmare. Besides, they weren't occurring that often, saying that the last nightmare she had was 3 weeks ago.
Anakin caught the flinch and his grip on her shoulder tightened. He locked his eyes onto hers.
"Ahsoka, what's wrong? Please, I just want to help you and I know that you aren't telling me the truth."
She swallowed hesitantly and avoided his gaze. Voices echoed in the back of her head.
"Then you will die.."
A shudder was sent through her body and Anakin instantly pulled her close, rubbing her back. He had always been like a brother figure to her, being protective and always trying to make sure she was okay. Of course, she'd do the same for him too. Curse the attachment rule.
She buried her head into the crook of his neck, just feeling comforted by the fact that he was there.
"I-I'll tell you..just-not right now, please.." She muttered.
Anakin tightened his grip on her slightly and then pulled back, looking her in the eye. "Okay, then..but promise that you'll talk about it. It helps.."
Ahsoka smiled. "I promise."
Anakin gave her a soft smile in return. "Now go back to sleep, you deserve it.
Ahsoka nodded and headed over to her bed and laid down. Anakin gently pulled the covers up to her shoulders. "And if you ever need to talk, I'm here.."
Ahsoka smiled up tiredly at him. "I know, master.."
Then she was asleep. Even Anakin was surprised at how quickly she had succumbed to it. But nevertheless, he gently knelt down and placed a small kiss to her forehead.
She was like a little sister to him, and like hell he'd let anything happen to her.
Anakin stood up and was about to head back to his own room, but decided to pay a visit to a certain someone.
..................................
Padmé was seated on the couch in her apartment. She hadn't a single clue why she had bothered getting up in the middle of the night, but she didn't care at this point. It was beginning to get difficult for her to sleep, especially having to worry about her husband almost constantly. And especially since he was so reckless and fighting, practically on the front lines.
The war did that to people, she supposed.
She thought about heading back to sleep when C-3PO suddenly came into the room. "Master Ani is here to see you."
Padmé smiled. "Thank you, C-3PO."
She got to her feet and went to meet her husband. He wrapped her up in a tight embrace and placed a tender kiss to her lips before they pulled back.
"I missed you, Ani. I've been worried sick."
Anakin sighed and gave a small chuckle. "I've missed you, too. Took a while to get back to Coruscant."
"I figured," Padmé replied with a smile. "But I'm glad you're safe," She wrapped her arms around him and buried her face into the crook of his neck.
Though, she could feel his obvious worry and the way his figure was slightly tensed.
"Are you okay?"
Anakin sighed and pulled back, gaze drifting to her face. "I'm worried about Ahsoka.."
Padmé instantly felt a little worry herself. She had grown close to Ahsoka as well and knew how strong-willed and kind she was. "Why? Is she okay?"
"Fine..I think. I'm sure she's been having nightmares. Or at least before I came over here.." He paused, seeming to think for a moment.
"She seemed so scared..I hate seeing her so vulnerable like that. She doesn't deserve it. It's just-I guess the war changes people. She's just so young."
Padmé looked up at her husband. "Have you talked to her?"
Anakin shook his head, expression saddening. "No. I tried, but she didn't want to talk. But she promised that she'd talk at some point.."
Padmé frowned. "Just give her some time, Ani. But don't wait too long," She smiled. "I know that she can be a bit stubborn, just like someone I know," she nudged Anakin playfully.
"Hey. I'm not that stubborn."
"Oh, Ani.." Padmé sighed, but smiled nonetheless. "You're rubbing off on her. I don't think Obi-Wan would love dealing with 2 of you."
Anakin snorted. "Oh, I'm sure he'd love it."
Padmé rolled her eyes before finally relaxing. "You should head back to the Temple and check on her. I'm sure she needs you as much as you need her.."
As much as Anakin was reluctant to leave his wife, he knew that she was right. Ahsoka did need him, and he wasn't about to just abandon her. She meant as much to him as Padmé did. Of course, they didn't love each other in the same way, but he couldn't stand to lose her nonetheless.
So he gave Padmé one last kiss before he turned and left.
