Chat woke up with a killer headache. Oh, merde that hurts. As he tried to rub his head, his wrists were tugged sharply by what he realised were chains. Oh, merde. There were chains on his ankles too, forcing him to lay on the concrete. As he looked around, he realised they were in some sort of warehouse. A large, dark room with a domed ceiling and a stall, stained glass window in the shape of a butterfly. Men gathered in corners, playing cards, drinking beer and laughing raucously.
"You aren't in Kansas anymore, Dorothy." Chat's ears flicked, but he did not turn his head. "What, aren't you happy to see me?"
"Where's Marinette." Chat said bluntly.
Hawkmoth scowled and clenched his fists. "She'll die right after you do. You killed half of my men and destroyed one of my warehouses you son-of-a-bitch." Hawkmoth started to punch Chat Noir, clocking him in the face and body. His men cheered in the background.
Chat could not move, could not block the blows.
"Get off Chat Noir, you piece of crap." Chat opened his eyes to see Marinette in front of the window, rage rolling off her in waves.
Chat began frantically tugging at his chains. "Marinette, NO!"
Hawkmoth looked between Chat Noir and Marinette, a sadistic grin spread on his face. "Come join the party, Marinette darling. We love guests." Hawkmoth gestured to the men around him, all standing up and cracking their knuckles. There had to be at least 50!
As Marinette stepped forward, so did the men. They began to charge, and what happened could never be erased from the mind of any witness.
Marinette raised her hands, flames brewing in her bluebell eyes. Like a conductor of an orchestra, she began a symphony of death. Waves of men dying in gruesome ways- choking, shooting eachother- shooting themselves. And Marinette burned, a wildfire that could not be quenched. Man after man had their lives snuffed out. Knife after knife went into the body of the beholder. Scream after scream was silenced. At last, only Hawkmoth, Chat Noir and Marinette remained.
Marinette seemed to emerge from her daze, to realize what damage she had done. And grief brewed, a scar that would never heal. Hawkmoth had the sense to look slightly nervous and run away. But for once Marinette's thoughts were not on Hawkmoth. She looked to Chat Noir. But instead of the disgust and horror she thought she would see in his eyes, all she saw was awe and pride.
She ran over the raised her arms before tearing them suddenly, breaking the chains that had held Chat Noir down. "Are you okay?"
"Fine, thanks to you princess."
"You stupid cat! What are you doing here?"
"I came looking for you."
"I don't need a knight- I-I guess you found out why."
Chat Noir stood up, towering over Marinette's petite form. "I always knew, Mari."
Marinette's eyes widened, her mouth slightly agape.
"I- I saw you in the alley, with those men. I saw how you saved the woman they were after. I've always known, every afternoon we spent together."
"And you never thought to talk to me about it?" Marinette's voice was trembling with a quiet rage. "Our whole relationship has been a lie?"
"No, no Mari! Everything's been real. It always was to me. Our friendship, and... our more-than-friendship. I didn't tell you I knew, but-"
"No, Chat. I understand the mask, but this is a lie I'm not sure I can get over." Marinette started to turn away.
"Marinette, I love you." Chat blurted. He hadn't had any idea he did, but as soon as he said it he was sure.
Marinette turned back, wide-eyed. "What did you just say?"
"I love you. That is my truth. These lies, I thought they were for your own good. But I can see now that all I was doing was lying to myself. I can't change them, but I can tell you this truth. And as many truths as you want, if you'll have me."
Marinette let a small smile creep onto her face. "I love you too."
Chat Noir grinned, a smile that stretched from ear to ear. This moment was one of pure bliss.
But moments are always fleeting.
The sound of a knife entering a body brought the two down from their daze. Chat Noir staggered, fell- a knife planted in his side gushing blood.
And from the corner, the no longer forgotten Hawkmoth grinned a smile that stretched from ear to ear. "Finally. I have no patience for teenage love."
Marinette screamed, a scream of pure agony and brought her hands to catch Chat before he hit the ground. "No, no, no, no, no. Not happening. No. No!" Marinette turned, the flames in her eyes reignited and burning with the intent to kill. She raised her arms, causing Hawkmoth to fly into the air. She slowly pulled her hands apart, stretching him. When she said she would tear them limb-by-limb, she hadn't realised she'd meant it.
Normally villains get some infamous last words, a conversation that would stick with the hero or heroine for a lifetime. Hawkmoth recieved no such luxury. He died alone, with not a word granted to his dying lips. And that was what he deserved.
Marinette turned back to Chat, tears streaming down her anguished face. "Chat don't you leave me. I'm going to call an ambulance."
Chat smiled. "You're a bit dramatic, you know? It's not so bad. I'll live. Besides, I'd never die before we had our first date." Marinette grinned and pressed her lips down to his.
"If you're going to call an ambulance, you should probably get us out of here first. Marinette looked around at the carpet of bodies. "Probably." She whispered. "God, I really killed all these people?"
Chat Noir turned her head to face his. "Mon amour. It's okay." He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Let's go."
The two limped out of the warehouse, Chat Noir leaning on Marinette for support. But before they left, they set the whole damn building on fire. Those bodies will never be found- as it is supposed to be. The two left the warehouse darker, damaged. But they left together. As it is supposed to be. Chat Noir and Mind-Power Marinette.
"Chat, that's a terrible nickname."
"I like it Mari!"
This is our story. Now it's yours to read.
